Ludhiana, December 31 CMCH to have Regional Cancer Care Centre

Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) will add a new service to its existing infrastructure by October 2008. The hospital has plans to open a state-of-the-art Regional Cancer Care Centre. According to CMCH director Dr John Pramod, the centre will be completely managed by an American group and will be one of its kind in the state.

"The centre will take care of medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiology and preventive care with the help of expert doctors and latest equipment," he said.

Nuclear medicine at DMCH

Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) has plans to initiate nuclear medicine services, which will include cardiology, trauma centre and Spect CT by mid-2008. Besides, DMCH principal Dr Daljit Singh informs that the emphasis is on superspeciality services and the emergency wing will see development with the upgradation of triage and trauma centre.

"We will also start work on the institute of cancer with an emphasis on radiotherapy. In addition, neurology and urology will be included in superspeciality," he says.

Stringent drives to check foeticide

The district health department has planned to launch three drives — of checking female foeticide, addiction and adulteration — more stringently.

Underground wires; call centres at PSEB

PSEB has plans for underground wiring in many areas of the city so as to end the nuisance of overhead wires that are susceptible to accidents. Chief Engineer B S Bath says, “This proposal has been sent to the state government and we are expecting an early approval.”

Bath told, “I have many other plans, including computeried call centres for which tenders have already been floated. Customer service is at a priority and manual work will also be stopped at the call centres."

Apart from this, installation of more transformers, electronic meters, etc. are no doubt on the cards as well.

E-governance tops MC’s priority list

Municipal Commissioner Vikas PrAtap says though the civic body has a number of plans, e-governance tops the list. “This will no doubt improve efficiency and at the same time will be more result-oriented."

“The project, which has been lingering for many years and was to be undertaken by the MC itself, will now be taken up by Microsoft. Problems related to birth and death records, water and sewer bills will be streamlined in the department once the system is operational,” says Partap. The plan, however, is still at an initial stage. The Commissioner did not talk about the project’s deadline.

System to keep tabs on teachers

“To curb the menace of mass copying, we have planned to keep a strict vigil on teachers. Through a complete centralised system, we will keep a check on the teaching methodology of teachers as effective teaching will essentially translate into better students.

Sports and other co-curricular activities will also be increased in the government schools to hone the talent of students,” said the District Education Officer (Secondary), Sudesh Bajaj.

Proper execution of SSA schemes

“We have plans to tide over our drawbacks at all levels so as not to repeat old mistakes. We also intend to improve communication at the block level. “In all, there are 19 educational blocks where we will ensure proper implementation of mid-day meals and schemes under Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan, said District Education Officer (Elementary) Varinder Sharma.
