Chandigarh, March 16 Exhibiting their skills and getting sensitised to the process, trainees of the Home Guard, volunteers of the Chandigarh Police, along with the trainee staff of recruit training centre, participated in a riot control demonstration today.

Organised on the guidelines of SSP/UT, Chandigarh, the demonstration proved to be a significant exercise for the police at revising their skills.

All arrangements required for crowd control such as fire brigade, ambulance, mounted staff, water canon were a part of the demonstration with the police performing the respective duties assigned to them.

The demonstration was organised keeping in view the ongoing and forthcoming sessions of the Punjab and Haryana Legislative Assemblies. All the GOs/SHOs and 450 other ranks of Chandigarh Police attended the demonstration.

The demonstration was presented in four phases i.e. control through persuasion by forming a chain/wall of police officials to control the mob, using minimum force through water cannons, tear gas, mild lathicharge and ultimately to avoid loss of life and property, the use of minimum fire arms were presented.

Vijay Kumar, DSP (operations and training), said such demonstrations go a long way in inculcating significant training skills in the police and show how to tackle large and unruly mobs in times of emergency without the loss of life.
