Kanpur, September 2: A police inspector’s attempt to allegedly bribe his senior who was hearing a plea against him, proved costly.

Inspector S L Siddharta was caught on Monday for allegedly offering DIG Kamal Saxena a bribe of Rs 6,000 for approving his case of transfer.

“When he offered me a bribe I immediately called my PRO and ordered his arrest,” DIG Kamal Saxena said.

Siddharta was previously posted in Kanpur but was later transferred to Power Corporation, Jhansi, on charges of negligence in work on January 24, 2008. He had filed an appeal with the department against the decision and the matter was being heard by the DIG.

“ We have registered a case of corruption against him under section 10 of the Prevention of corruption Act and he will be produced in the court today,” DIG said.
