Mumbai, February 25 Andheri police on Monday arrested three MNS activists and are on the lookout for two others in an assault case. The three arrested party workers, identified as Kirane Sitaram Jadhav (20), Yogesh Ramesh Mhap (27) and Mahendra Dalvi (25), along with two others were accused of assaulting a social activist during the protest against Raj Thackeray's arrest on February 13.

According to the Andheri police, on February 13, the accused party workers were forcing shopkeepers to shut their shops in JB Nagar, Andheri, in protest against Raj Thackeray’s arrest. During the protest, a social activist from AGNI, James John, started clicking their photographs from his mobile which agitated the party workers.

“On seeing John capturing their actions in his camera, the five party workers started chasing him. Though John tried to escape, he was caught and assaulted by them. He got severe injuries on his ribs. John then approached the Andheri police station and lodged a complaint against the five men,” said Senior Police Inspector Pradeep Suryavanshi of Andheri police station.

According to Suryavanshi, the police could not ascertain the identities of the accused from the images produced by the mobile camera. “A special team was formed to trace the assailants. The team conducted enquiries in the area and finally traced three of them near Marol pipeline. We are still on the lookout for two other assailants,” added Suryavanshi.
