Chandigarh, January 22 An alert Police Control Room (PCR) personnel averted a car theft late last night, when they chased a stolen Maruti 800 for two kilometres before intercepting it at the Railway lightpoint, when the driver of the PCR rammed his vehicle into the speeding car.

Three persons, who had stolen the car from Sector 22 B, left the car there and escaped from the spot.

The Maruti car (CH-01-L-8888), belonging to Kuldip Singh, a resident of house number 1889, Sector 22, was parked outside his residence. It was stolen at about 12.30 am. The police received an intimation about the theft at about 12.50 am and messages were flashed to all control units. The stolen car was noticed speeding away on Madhya Marg towards Panchkula. A PCR vehicle stationed near the Grain Market roundabout started chasing the vehicle. It was signalled to stop but the driver of the car paid no heed to it.

The PCR driver then banged his vehicle against the Maruti at the Railway lightpoint forcing the car to stop. Before the police could nab the occupants of the car, they escaped into the jungle towards Daria village.

The police conducted a search throughout the night, during which three suspicious looking persons were also rounded up, who were later let off after verification. The police recovered a truck’s battery and two pliers from the car. A case has been registered on charges of theft at Police Station-17.
