According to sources, the four constables are of the same batch as Constable Shamsher Singh, who was arrested on Friday for playing a key role in the paper leak scam.
All the seven candidates also happen to be residents of villages in and around the native village of Constable Shamsher Singh.
The Special Cell of Chandigarh Police has zeroed in on a few of its own men who are supposed to have played a very important role in the scam.
“It is a clear case. It is quite easy to identify those who paid to get through the exam. They will definitely be on the run, will be absent from duty to avoid getting caught. We are also on the lookout for the prime accused in the case, Joginder Dahiya and Sanjay Rana,” said a senior police officer.
Meanwhile, constables Shamsher Singh and Amardeep Singh, who were produced in court on Saturday, were remanded in police custody for interrogation. They will again be produced in court on Sunday.
Investigating officers said they will seek to extend the remand of Shamsher Singh and Amardeep Singh.
According to sources, the two accused have told police that they collected money from friends and relatives and even borrowed from money-lenders in their villages.
“They must have given assurances that they would easily recover the amount by getting recruited as an officer in UT Police. We are also trying to catch hold of the details of their financial transactions and mobile phone,” said an investigating officer.
