Police team beaten by drug smuggler

Ludhiana, January 9 A police team was beaten by a poppy husk smuggler and his family members at Kadyana Kalan village under the jurisdiction of Koom Kalan police station.

Sources reveal that the police party had gone there on Monday night to arrest Om Prakash, who is allegedly a smuggler. The police team, comprising four members, was led by ASI Surinder Pal Singh, the Incharge of Mattewal police post. The policemen saved themselves by firing in the air.

Sources said that the police team had laid a naka at Kadyana Kalan village on January 1, where they signalled to stop a man. The man dodged the police and fled away, after leaving a bag at the site. The police took the possession of bag and found 4.5 kilogram poppy husk in it.

The accused was later identified as Om Parkash. A case was registered against Om Parkash. When the police team went to arrest Om Parkash, they were attacked by the smuggler, his family members and his accomplices. A case was registered against Om Parkash, his wife Gian Kaur, daughters Renu and Reshma, Giani and some other persons. No arrest has been made yet.
