Chandigarh, February 12 Over 1,000 police personnel will be deployed in the city to maintain law and order arrangements on the occasion of Valentine’s Day on February 14. Geri route (from Hotel Mountview, Sector 10 roundabout to Sector 10-11 intersection) shall remain a no-vehicle zone from 10 am to 4 pm. Around 50 nakas would be set up in the city to prevent any untoward incident.

According to the detailed plan released by the Chandigarh Police, special emphasis would be given to security around women colleges and hostels including the girls hostel at Panjab University campus. Women personnel would specially be deployed around the hostel till evening on February 14. Two special nakas would also be set up at Gate No 1 and 2 on Panjab University campus.

Talking to Newsline, a senior police official said, “No kind of nuisance would be tolerated tomorrow. Anybody found eve-teasing or harassing girls would face stern legal action. Police personnel would report to their nakas on the morning of February 14 before 10 am and remain deployed till evening.”

The traffic police would also set up 22 nakas around the city. “We would check all the visible traffic violations, be it driving without safety helmet, blaring music, pressure horns, triple riding, over-speeding, jumping the red lights and any other such violation that could endanger the lives of other motorists on the roads,” said Deputy Inspector General of Police (Traffic) AS Ahlawat.
