Mumbai, February 13: The Shiv Sena said the events of the last two weeks, culminating in the arrest of MNS chief Raj Thackeray today, are part of a political experiment in Maharashtra which will not succeed.

"Congress and NCP have their own part in this political experiment. There were attempts to ensure that the Marathi voter was alienated from the Shiv Sena," party spokesperson Neelam Gorhe said.

Efforts were made to distract attention from the issue of farmer suicides raised by Shiv Sena, and the political experiment was used as a `weapon' by ruling Congress to alienate Marathi voters from Sena, Gorhe said.

The MNS manifesto for the 2007 civic polls in the state had mentioned that the party was not against people from other regions and states, she said.

MNS had even entered into a poll alliance with Samajwadi Party in Thane civic bypoll, she pointed out.

Losses to the state by richard on 14 Feb 2008

Now is the time to think about the loss the state has suffered on account of staging this political drama and how will those losses be recovered. Will we be taxed more for the expenses incurred to maintain law and order? Who will pay for the losses this city and the individuals have suffered, just because Raj hates North Indians or for that matter any Indian national?

Call their bluff, voters of Maharashtra! by Mandookraj on 14 Feb 2008

It is khigh time that people of Maharashtra called Raj Thackeray, Bal Thackeray, Shiv Sena and MNS and all their bluff and voted solidly for BJP. That alonewill save Maharashtra and India.

It is good that Raj is put behind bars. This will show to all that no man is above the law. The SSena are now trying to scare the people by rioting across Maharashtra. That is all they know to do. This government has shown some balls.

Political experiment won't succeed, Sena on Raj arrest by raj on 13 Feb 2008

This is all hog wash, actual fact is Raj needs a home, Shiv Sena needs the man back, after all he is family, he cannot just be arrested with the old man watching. This is a typical GOwd type natak, finally marathi marathi manoos logic will prevail and Raj will walk back with no egos hurt, Uddhav needs a shoulder to fire from, everyone knows this too. The Vilasrao govt with NCP is playing this game of arrest and release, why did they bail him if he did not seek one? The uncle (old man) factor, it was the same Chaggan who said the old man's weight was 10 kilos didn't he? I hope he remembers what he said.

response.... by perpetuallyConcerned on 13 Feb 2008

"What's the pot saying to the kettle?!"They're all just selfish crooks and nothing else! Every political party tries it's best to instill chaos to confuse and convince the voter that they're the lesser evil! Besides, if the MNS and SP have an alliance, how come they're at each others throats? The only person to die in this 'experiment' is a Maharashtrian guy in the end... and all the damage caused is caused to the state's property and economy! And when you consider the state's economy and property, it isn't the Congress or whoever is in power whose property you are destroying, you are destroying property that belongs to you, your public and the regular voters! shame!
