Chandigarh, New Delhi In addition to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistan counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani, virtually the who’s who of the country — politicians, film stars, industrialists — may descend on Mohali to watch the much-awaited India vs Pakistan World Cup semi-final on Wednesday.

Among those expected at the PCA stadium are members of the Gandhi clan, including Sonia, Rahul, Priyanka and Robert Vadra.

The state police and sports authorities are on an overdrive considering the star and VVIP quotient of Wednesday’s showdown expected to be watched by many Bollywood celebrities such as Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Shilpa Shetty, Deepika Padukone and Bipasha Basu.

The corporate brigade includes both Ambani brothers and their families, Kingfisher Airlines owner Vijay Mallya with son Sidharth Mallya and steel tycoon Laxmi Naresh Mittal.

The galaxy of political leaders who might make it include Union ministers Sharad Pawar and Farooq Abdullah, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, BJP leader Arun Jaitley, BJP MP Anurag Thakur and governors of several states.

Though there is still no official word yet, the Gandhi clan may be present too.

Given their love for the game, their presence in earlier such matches and the underlying message that is sent out by being present in such an event watched by millions, chances that they may skip it are less, Congress sources said.

“These matters are decided at the last moment. Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka and other members of the family are expected to attend,” a source close to the family said.

Sonia Gandhi’s presence was still uncertain, as she continued to be sought by party managers over issues relating to Assembly elections in five states.

Other prominent names include Raza Aziz, former MP from Pakistan. He has been declared a state guest as he is coming on the personal invitation of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

An officer said: “The final list will come by tomorrow as the VVIPs are yet to give their confirmation.”
