The Congress was way ahead in the Lok Sabha seats leading in 33 seats with TDP trailing far behind with 6 seats. The TRS was leading in 2 while the PRP is yet to open its account.
However, Union Minister of state for ministry of women child development Renuka Choudhary lost from Khammam constituency. She lost to Nama Nageshwara Rao of the TDP. President of Nava Telangana Praja Party Devender Goud who merged his party with PRP lost from Malkajgiri.
TRS President K Chandrasekhara Rao was trailing from Mahbubnagar LS constituency.
As expected the trends trickling in from Bihar shows that the Nitish Kumar led NDA in the state is heading for a virtual sweep in the state and a consequent wash out for the duo of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan. Yadav after trailing for Saran and Paswan too is trailing from his forte of Hajipur. The JD(U)- BJP combine is maintaining a big lead over rivals RJD-LJP. The trends so far clearly indicate that the performance of the Nitish Kumar government in the state is weighing heavily on UPA opponents Lalu-Paswan.
Contrary to its performance in other states, BJP scored an exciting victory in Chhattisgarh when its candidates won 10 out of 11 Lok Sabha seats, raising the possibility of Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh gaining more clout within the party organization.
As the BJP swept 10 seats—most of them with an impressive margin—opposition Congress had to satisfy itself with just one seat, as like it happened in the April 2004 Lok Sabha elections. The newly formed Korba seat went to the Congress when its candidate Dr Charan Das Mahant defeated BJP national vice-president Mrs. Karuna Shukla , who is niece of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, by a margin of about 20,000 votes.
BJP wrested the Mahasamund seat when its candidate Chandulal Sahu, defeated Motilal Sahu (Congress) from this constituency. Jogi camp suffered a major setback as Dr Renu Jogi, wife of the former chief minister, lost the election to senior BJP leader Dilip Singh Judeo in one of the most keenly watched contest from Bilaspur constituency. Besides, Jogi’s known political adversary and state Congress working president Dr Charan Das Mahant won from neighbouring Korba constituency.
BJP’s most impressive victory came in Sarguja-ST constituency where its candidate Murarilal Singh defeated his nearest Congress rival Bhanu Pratap Singh by a margin of more than 1.40 lakh votes while state BJP president Vishnu Dev Sai defeated Congress nominee in Raigarh by a margin of about 50,000 votes.
Other BJP candidates who have won the election are Mrs. Kamla Patle (Janjgir-Champa-SC), former union minister Ramesh Bais (Raipur), Chandulal Sahu (Mahasamund), BJP national secretary Saroj Pandey (Durg), Madhusudan Yadav (Rajnandgaon), Baliram Kashyap (Bastar-ST) and Sohan Potai (Kanker-ST).
As counting began on Saturday, the first trends show that Congress is leading in New Delhi, North West Delhi and Karol Bagh.
According to initial results, Congress candidate from North West Delhi, Krishna Tirath has a lead of 1400 votes as of now.
Meanwhile, at the BSP Karol Bagh office while workers are huddled in front of the TV, leaders have chosen to stay away. So far, BSP has not won seats.
BJP has a clear edge over Congress, and is close to bettering its tally of 14 seats of the 2004 elections. While Shankersinh Vaghela has lost the polls, the case of another union minister Dinsha Patel in Kheda is more piquant. Trailing in the earlier rounds, Dinsha has managed a slim margin of 500 odd votes by the last rounds, but the results stand withheld as one of the EVMs developed a snag. Going by the declared results, the Congress has won Anand, Valsad, Dahod, Bardoli, Patan and Porbandar so far. Chief Minister Narendra Modi remains closeted at his official residence in Gandhinagar and off limits to the press as of late noon. Modi was incharge of Maharashtra and Goa in addition to Gujarat in this LS polls.
The Congress has won nine out of the ten Lok Sabha seats in Haryana. Deepinder Hooda son of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda won with a record margin of 4,45,558 lakh votes.
Union Minister for Poverty Alleviation Selja struggeled to victory with a margin of 14,564 votes in Ambala. Former Chief Minister and Harayan Janhit Congress Party candidate Bhajan Lal was the only opposition candidate to win this election. Bhajan however achieved the lowest victory margin of 6983 votes. Congress candidate slithered to no three here as INLD candidate Sampat Singh secured second position.
The prestigious Bhiwani-Mahendergarh seat was won by Shruti Choudhry who defeated INLD candidate and son of former Chief Minister Ajay Singh Chautala by a margin of 55053 votes.
Naveen Jindal of Congress was declared winner in Kurukshetra by a margin of 1,18,738 and Union Minister for External Affairs Rao Inderjit Singh in Gurgaon by a margin of 84863. Congress candidate Jitender Malik trounced his BJP rival Kishan Singh Sangwan attained a lead of 93,460 votes in Sonepat by a margin of 1,61,284 votes and Arvind Sharma of Congress won the seat 76,346 votes in Karnal.
Congress candidate Avtar Singh Bhadana won the Faridabad and Ashok Tanwar defeated his INLD rival Sita in Sirsa, the home constituency of former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala. Overcoming initial setback,
In a keenly contested electoral battle, Congress has won the Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat for the second consecutive term, with its nominee Lal Singh winning by a margin of over 13,394 votes.
In adjoining Jammu-Poonch constituency too, it was poised to win by a huge margin as its Madan Lal Sharma was leading by over 1 lakh votes from nearest BJP rival Leela Karan Sharma at the end of 10th round of counting. The trend was unlikely to change as there were only two round left in counting of votes polled in Jammu-Poonch constituency, sources said.
At the end of fourth round of counting in the three parliamentary constituencies of the Kashmir Valley, the National Conference candidates are leading from their rival candidate.
In Srinagar parliamentary seat, NC president Farooq Abdullah has maintained a lead of 12,000 votes from his rival PDP’ Molvi Ifthikar Ansari. In Baramulla, NC candidate Sharief ud din Shariq has taken a lead of 18,000 votes from PDP candidate Dilawar Mir, while as Peoples Conference chairman Sajjad Lone is trailing behind. In Anantnag parliament seat, the NC candidate has also taken lead over the PDP, earlier the PDP candidate was leading from this constituency. The counting for the final round is going on at all the three parliamentary seats. Meanwhile, the NC has won Sonwar assembly seat, the seat had fallen vacant after NC president vacated the seat after he was elected to Rajya Sabha seat.
BJP ruled Karnataka state like its counterpart Gujarat has followed assembly election and previous parliament poll trends in overwhelmingly voting for the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls. Bucking the general trend seen in other parts of the country the BJP had won 16 of 23 seats declared till 1:45 pm. The party also continued to lead in three of five seats where results are to be declared. The Congress has won five and the JDS two.
Among key candidates in the fray in yet to be declared seats are former Congress spokesperson Veerappa Moily and former prime minister and JDS leader H D Devegowda from Hassan. While Moily has a lead of 18857 votes, Gowda is leading his nearest rival by over 1.9 lakh votes. Former Congress chief minister Dharam Singh also maintains a slender lead in the Bidar constituency.
The Congress-led United Democratic Front has staged a major come back in Kerala, with either winning or leading in 16 out of the 20 constituencies. The CPI (M)-led Left Democratic Front has either won or ensured victory in four seats. Several CPI (M) strongholds including Kannur, Vatakara and Kozhikode have been wrested by the Congress.
As per the latest figures, winners from Congress camp include Sashi Tharoor (Thiruvananthapuram), K Sudhakaran (Kannur) P K Peethambarakuruppu (Kollam), M I Shanavas (Wayanad), P C Chacko (THrissur), K V Dhanapalan (CHalakkudy) and Kodikkunnil Suresh (Mavelikkara). The CPI (M) could retain four seats of Kasargode, Palakkad, Alathur and Attingal. But, the CPI (M)’s allies in the LDF, including the CPI drew blank in the state, setting the stage for a major revolt within the front.
The ruling BJP suffered a setback in Madhya Pradesh with the Congress turning in an improved performance that surpassed even its own expectations. The Congress which had won only 4 seats five years ago was set to win 12 seats leaving the ruling party to settle for only 16 seats, a far cry from the handsome performance in 2004 when it won 25 seats.
The Bahujan Samaj Party, which was expected to cause an upset in Rewa constituency that borders Uttar Pradesh, opened its account in Madhya Pradesh. The party had won three segments of the Rewa Lok Sabha constituency in the 2008 Assembly elections.
The BJP which appeared to be overconfident having gone into the general election after completing one full term- it was the first-time ever in Madhya Pradesh that a party other than the Congress lasted for five years-suffered heavily in the Malwa region.
The party lost Dhar, Dewas and Ujjain to the Congress. In Indore, where party candidate Sumitra Mahajan had accused her local rivals in the BJP of sabotage, her winning margin was drastically down. Before 2009, the veteran leader had won six consecutive elections comprehensively.
Congress stalwarts Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia expectedly won from Chhindwara and Guna constituencies. But it was victories in other seats that the Congress must have found more satisfying.
Of the 15 results declared, the Congress-NCP alliance won eight, while the BJP-Sena alliance won six and one seat (Palghar) was won by an independent Baliram Jadhav of Bahujan Vikas Aghadi.
The Prominent winners at this hour- Supriya Sule (NCP) from Baramati; Sameer Bhujbal (NCP) from Nashik; Nilesh Rane (Cong) from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg; Praful Patel (NCP) from Bhandara-Gondia; Anant Paranjape (Sena) from Kalyan; and Udayanraje Bhosale (NCP) from Satara.
The prominent loser is RPI (A) leader Ramdas Athawale from Shirdi. Athawale was defeated by Sena’s Bhausaheb Wakchaure.
Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal was all set for a landslide win in both the assembly and Lok Sabha elections with the party leading in 98 of the 147 assembly constituencies far ahead of the rivals Congress and BJP.
The party needs 74 seats in the assembly for a simple majority and with a tally that is set to touch 100 seats, BJD is comfortably ensconced to form government. The rising popularity of the party can be gauged from the fact that the party would better its previous tally of 63 seats in the 2004 assembly polls.
Powered by a towering leadership of Naveen Patnaik and the populist scheme of Rs 2 a kg rice, the regional party is all set to form the next government in Orissa alone. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik, who would become the first Oriya politician to score a hattrick win, was leading comfortably in Hinjili assembly constituency like several of his cabinet colleagues. Though JB Patnaik of Congress is the longest serving chief minister of Orissa, he could not score a hattrick. Even Naveen’s illustrious father Biju Patnaik could never score a back-to-back win.
In the Lok Sabha seats also, BJD and its pre-poll allies such as Left and NCP were ahead in 17 of the 21 seats with Congress leading in 4 seats.
Congress which was hamstrung by a lack of strategy and leadership during the entire campaign was leading in only 29 seats. The party’s campaign was lacklustre with its PCC president KP Singh Deo denied a ticket to fight either the assembly or Lok Sabha polls. The BJP which was dumped by Naveen Patnaik could not impress the electorate with its battle theme of “betrayal”. Most of its big guns including its national secretary Dharmendra Pradhan were trailing in the election. The party was leading in only 11i seats.
BJD’s win also marks the ascendancy of its chief strategist and Rajya Sabha MP Pyari Mohan Mohapatra, who was instrumental in breaking the party away from BJP just before the polls. Mohapatra, who himself chose every single candidate for the Lok Sabha and assembly poll, seemed to have been proved right with his prediction that the party would win not less than 85 seats in the assembly and 12 seats in the Lok Sabha.
Congress, which could win just two of the 13 seats in the previous Lok Sabha elections, made considerable gains in these elections and was set to win at least seven of the 13 seats at stake.
As was widely expected, the Shiromani Akali Dal (DSAD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which had together won 11 of the 13 seats, suffered reverses after wresting the power from Congress in the 2007 assembly elections.
The performance by the Congress would put the ruling SAD-BJP coalition under pressure and Capt Amarinder Singh has emerged as the undisputed leader of the Congress. He was appointed incharge of the party's campaign and is expected to be given the party's leadership to win the next assembly elections.
The major saving frace for the SAD-BJP combine was the overwhelming victory of Harsimrat Kaur from Bathinda, who defeated Raninder Singh of Congress by a margin of over one lakh votes. This was being seen as the most significant contest and may partly balance out the defeat of the alliance in the state.
Preneet Kaur, wife of the former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh, has won from the Patiala seat for the third time in a row.
After a close race, Vinod Khanna of the BJP was defeated by Partap Singh bajwa of the Congress from the Gurdaspur constituency. Manish Tiwari and Hansraj Hans of the Congress are leading in Ludhiana and Jalandhar respectively. Latest reports also said that Navjot Sidhu of BJP has been declared winner by a margin of over 6000 votes.
Jagmeet Brar of the Congress was defeated in Ferozepur while Ravneet Bittu was leading over his SAD rival D S Cheema from the Anandpur Sahib constituency. Paramjit Kaur Gulshan was declared winner after defeating Sukhwinder Danny while from Khadoor Sahib Rana Gurjit was getting tough competition from Rattan Singh Ajnala of the SAD.
Meanwhile, Pawan Kumar Bansal of the Congress was leading from the Chandigarh Union territory seat over his BJP rival Satya Pal Jain
Turning the tables on the BJP in Rajasthan, the congress picked up 19 Lok Sabha seats in the state while the BJP managed just four, a stellar improvement for the congress from the 2004 LS elections, when they had won just four seats. At the end of counting the congress won 19, the BJP four, one independent, while counting in the Tonk-Sawai Madhopur, has been delayed after an EVM malfunctioned.
Keeping in tune with neighbouring states like Haryana, New Delhi and even Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan is one among the biggest gain states for the congress in 2009. Buoyed by their recent victory in the assembly elections in December last year, the congress managed to come tantalisingly close to its main election slogan “Target 25”, which Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot came up with a day after being sworn in. The congress even managed a victory from the urban Jaipur city constituency, for the first time since 1989.
Following up their victory in the assembly elections with a sweep in the 2009 LS elections has left Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot jubilant. Addressing a press conference even before the final results of several seats were yet to be declared, Gehlot said, “The voters of Rajasthan have given their mandate to the congress, for which I am thankful. It seems the people of Rajasthan have realised that the BJP cannot deliver.” Gehlot added that the victory was possible thanks to the UPA government’s excellent performance in the last five years. “Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi made this victory possible,” Gehlot added.
According to Gehlot, it was the BJP’s “wholly” negative campaign that worked against them in the end. “From the beginning, whether in Rajasthan or across the country, the BJP has used a wholly negative campaign against the UPA. They targeted the PM, calling him weak or shouted about the UPA’s handling of terrorism and so on. The people have seen though such a campaign and rejected it,” Gehlot said. He added that though “Target 25” the congress campaign slogan, was not achieved, he was more than pleased about the results.
Meanwhile, the BJP camp, which remained desolate since noon, when the trends became clear, has preferred to stay tight-lipped about the rout. A senior BJP leader only said, “Well the mandate is clear but we were not prepared for this result. We will sit together with the state leadership and analyse this defeat soon.”
Counting in the Tonk-Sawai Madhopur constituency was delayed after an EVM from booth number 16 malfunctioned and a technician from Jaipur had to be dispatched to repair the EVM. The constituency is witnessing a battle between union minister Namo Narain Meena and the face of the Gurjjar agitation, Col Kirori Singh Bainsla from the BJP. According to the state election department, Meena held a scant lead of 472 votes before the last EVM malfunctioned, delaying the result.
Just two sitting BJP MPs retained their seats; former CM Vasundhara Raje’s son Dushyant from Jhalawar and Ram Singh Kaswan from Churu, while the losers in the BJP camp included bigwigs like former external affairs minister Jaswant Singh’s son Manvendra from Barmer, five-time MP Rasa Singh Ravat from Rajsamandh and mahila morcha national president Kiran Maheshwari from Ajmer. Sachin Pilot from Ajmer, Girija Vyas from Chittodgarh, C P Joshi from Bhilwara and Sisram Ola from Jhunjhunu, all emerged victorious for the congress.
Interestingly, three congress candidates who lost the assembly elections, C P Joshi, Lal Chand Kataria and Mahadev Singh in 2008, all emerged victorious in the LS elections, while three sitting BJP MLAs, Kiran Maheshwari, Ganshyam Tiwari and Rao Jaswant Singh, who contested the LS polls, lost.
In a closely fought battle, independent candidate and veteran Meena community leader, Kirori Lal Meena, won against Jammu and Kashmir Gurjjar, Qammar Rabbani in the Dausa constituency. After his expulsion from the BJP before the assembly polls, Meena contested as an independent and supported the Gehlot government, but withdrew support after being denied a ticket from Dausa. Rabbani, who despite the complete support of the Gurjjar community in Dausa, failed to notch up the numbers.
Upsetting all predications, the DMK-Congress combine is leading in 22 seats in Tamil Nadu while the AIADMK-PMK-MDMK-Left alliance is ahead in 17 constituencies. Union Ministers P Chidambaram and Mani Shankar Aiyar were trailing in Sivaganga and Mayiladumthurai seats respectively. DMK candidates and Union Ministers A Raja and T R Baalu are ahead of their rivals in Nilgiris and Sriperumbadur seats.
K.C. Singh Baba and Harish Rawat of the Congress have been declared the winners on the Nainital and Hardwar Lok Sabha seats in Uttarakhand. Earlier Pradeep Tamta was declared the winner from Almora. While Baba defeated his nearest rival Bacchi Singh Rawat of the BJP by a margin of about 28,000 votes, Rawat defeated Mohammad Shehzad of the BSP by a comfortable margin of about 70,00 votes. In remaining two seats of Pauri and Tehri Congress candidates Satpal Maharaj and Vijay Bahuguna continue to retain comfortable leads over their BJP and BSP rivals respectively..
The first seat of Uttar Pradesh, for which the result was declared at 12:45 PM went to the Congress. The party candidate Praveen Singh Aron defeated the BJP candidate Santosh Gangwar in Bareilly. Santosh Gangwar is seven time MP from Bareilly seat which is adjacent to Pilibhit.
The early trends for all 80 seats of Uttar Pradesh also showed the Congress party as the biggest gainer in the final trends for all the 80 seats of Uttar Pradesh. The party which had got 9 seats in the last Lok Sabha elections was leading on 20 seats as trends for final 80 seats poured in. Reports were that Priyanka Gandhi, who campaigned for mother Sonia Gandhi, was likely to come to Rae Bareli in the afternoon to collect the certificate of victory for mother Sonia Gandhi
The final trends also showed that the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Bhartiya Janata Party failed to make any impact as both seemed to have been somehow retaining their seats. The BSP which had got 19 seats in the last election was ahead on 23 seats in the final trends at around 01:00 PM. Similarly, the BJP which got 10 seats in the last parliament and Rashtriya Lok Dal which got 3 seats – were jointly leading on 14 seats at that time.
However, the Samajwadi party which claimed that no government would be formed without its presence and which also seemed to be the biggest loser in this election, was leading on 21 seats. The party had got 35 seats in the last poll.
Two seats are led by others which include former BJP leader Kalyan Singh who is contesting independently with the support of the SP.
The final trends showed the Congress candidates Sri Prakash Jaiswal, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Anu Tandon, Jitin Prasad, PL Punia, Jagdambika Pal and Azharuddin, leading. However, the trends showed a neck to neck fight in Rampur between the Congress candidate Noor Bano and Samajwadi party candidate Jaya Prada.
In BJP Yogi Aditya Nath, Lalji Tandon, Rajnath, Maneka Gandhi, Varun Gandhi and Murli Manohar Joshi too were leading in Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Aola, Pilibhit and Varanasi, respectively. The Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) candidate Ajit Singh and his son Jayant Chowdhury were trailing in Baghpat and Mathura.
The Left retained Purulia seat with the Forward Bloc defeating the Congress candidate by a margin of 19,301 votes. In Malda north, veteran Congressman late ABA Ghani Khan Chowdhury's granddaughter Mausam Benazir Noor - a first time LS election contestant - defeated her CPM rival by 60,541 votes. In Ranaghat, the TMC emerged victorious defeating the CPM by 73,556 votes. The results in Malda south saw the Congress defeating CPM by 1,36,280. In Durgapur constituency, the CPM retained its seat by a margin of 1,08,237.
In Jalpaiguri, the CPM defeated Congress by 87,525 votes.
Howrah TMC candidate Ambica Banerjee emerged victorious over her CPM rival by a margin of 38,892 votes. In Bankura, CPM veteran and eight-time Parliamentarian Basudeb Acharia ensured a ninth term in Parliament for himself, putting paid to Congress heavyweight Subrata Mukherjee's hopes by a margin of 1,07,149.
The CPM retained the Bolpur seat _ the constituency of Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee who is not contesting this time after being expelled from the party in July last year _ by defeating the Congress by 1,26,882 votes. In Hooghly, the TMC continued its march by defeating the CPM candidate by 81,533 votes. Left bastion Arambagh's results were practically one-sided with CPM candidate Saktimohan Malik defeating his Congress rival by a huge 2,01,558 vote margin
In Vishnupur, the CPM retained its seat as candidate Susmita Bauri defeated her TMC rival by 1,29,284 votes. The verdict in Balurghat remained under a cloud with the TMC demanding a recount based on the slender margin of 5,105 votes by which LF partner RSP won
The uprising in Jhargram's Lalgarh area by tribals against alleged atrocities by the state police notwithstanding, the CPM romped home by the highest margin in this tribal dominated constituency, as newcomer and CPM candidate Dr Pulinbehari Baske defeated his Congress rival by a massive margin of 2,92,345.
In Ghatal, veteran CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta retained his seat defeating the TMC candidate by 1,47,184 votes. In Kolkata north, CPM candidate Md Salim suffered an unprecedented defeat with the TMC's Sudip Bandyopadhyay winning by 1,09,278 votes. Midnapore saw CPI candidate Prabodh Panda emerging victorious over the TMC by 48,017 votes.
The Left bastion of Asansol remained strong amidst the ruins with CPM candidate Bansagopal Chowdhury defeating his TMC rival by 72,956.

Very bad for mother Bharat. This is the result of billions of dollars spent by the christian missionaries under the disguise of service.BJP candidates won in Kandhmal, Mangalore and Godhra. If anti social incidents were happened the way these news papers reported, how come local people elected these BJP candidates? The only way out of this situation is to support Sangh and stop christian atrocities.
Congress party's win is a sad milestone for India, and is a result of the apathy of the middle class and upper middle class who do not recognise their national obligation to vote.

Now Prakash Karat has enough time (5 years)to launch an extensive research on producing power from biological or other idigeneous resourses.meanwhile somnath dada should take charge of making policy of to recover the party
BJP/RRS gays think that they are the saviors of Hindutva. Really they do not know what is Hiduism. They should read late Dr. S. Radhakrishnan's book on Hinduism. Congratulations to Dr. Manmohan Singh, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, Mr. Rahul Gandhi, Mr. Kapil Sibal, Mr. Abhisekh Singvi and others.
Congress has managed to benifit from their allies. Mainly from CPM and RJD wholost very badly. Now TMC should take caution for next election.
