Chandigarh, January 29 Construction of bollard-shaped footlights around the cemented path in the park adjoining Dev Samaj School in Sector 21 has drawn flak from the councillors who are unhappy with the poor quality of work. Interestingly, one of the footlight has already damaged, which the officials of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh have not taken note of.

On the demand of residents, area councillor Anju Beniwala had floated a proposal of around Rs 3 lakh to erect 46 bollards and four poles in the park that was passed in the MC House meeting.

Since the work was allotted to a Mohali-based contractor, the construction of bollard shape footlights was going on full swing here and large number of cemented structure for the installation of footlights has been erected.

Today, nominated councillor Pallav Mukherjee, member of Finance and Contract Committee of Municipal Corporation, during his visit to the park found that the work had not been executed as per the specifications. Unhappy with the quality, he requested the Sub-Divisional Engineer Kuldeep Singh to visit the site.

When the concerned official arrived, Mukherjee took the round of park and inspected the cemented structures being erected by the contractor and pointed the poorly constructed cemented structures.

Beniwala said lights were being installed for the facility of residents who are using the park. “Our job is to pass the proposals in the corporation after which it is the official’s responsibility to ensure proper execution of work. I am going to raise the issue in the house,” she added.

When contacted, Executive Engineer (Electrical), S K Kandhola said he had already asked the contractor to remove all the bollards. “On Monday, we issued a notice to contractor, directing him to execute the work as per the specifications of Detailed Notice Inviting Tenders (DNIT),” he said.
