Panchkula, March 8 The Panchkula police's shoddy investigation techniques have left numerous crime cases unsolved in the city.

Be it the murder of the still unidentified girl whose body was found in Morni, or the murder of an AC mechanic at

Saketri around a year ago, the police have failed to achieve a breakthrough.

Leaving aside murder cases, the police are finding the recent spate of robberies and snatching cases in the district hard to crack as well.

Chandigarh Newsline takes a look at the status of a few high-profile crime cases in Panchkula that remain unsolved.

AC mechanic murder case

(May, 2007)

Rajbir Singh (35), a resident of Sector 2, was murdered in his car by a friend near the Saketri road at Mansa Devi Complex. Singh worked as an AC mechanic and reportedly received 30 stab wounds to his body with a sharp-edged weapon.

What happened later?

Police have failed to trace the accused till date, despite several visits to the police station by Rajbir's family, who have submitted the photograph of the suspected killer. The police, on their part, have not bothered to visit the deceased's house even once.

Morni murder case

(October 29, 2007)

The body of a 23-year-old girl was found abandoned three kilometres from Morni village on the Morni-Raipur Rani Road. Locals found the body in a gunny bag with its hands and legs tied with a black dupatta.

What happened later?

The police showed surprising haste in cremating the girl's body, which has not been identified till date. According to senior police officers, a funds crunch is leading to the delay in identification, as the department does not have enough money to get photographs of the girl published.

"We want to use the electronic and print media to publish the pictures so that we can at least identify the dead girl," added the police officer.

Robbery at gunpoint

(January 18, 2008)

Three unidentified men robbed the cashier and the driver of Berkeley Automobiles, Industrial Area, of Rs 5.16 lakh at gunpoint. Both the employees were on the way to a bank to deposit the cash when the incident occurred.

What happened later?

Even after the Panchkula SP constituted a special team under DSP (City) to look into the matter, the police are yet to make a breakthrough in the case.

Rs 25,000 stolen

(January 18, 2008)

A bag containing Rs 25,000 in cash was stolen from an Indica car parked outside a main showroom in Sector 11, Panchkula. The car-owner, Arun Kumar, a resident of Sector 8, came back to find the bag missing.

What happened later?

Police have found no clue relating to the theft till date.

Rs 3.40 lakh stolen

(February 22, 2008)

Rs 3,40,000 were stolen from the car of a Panchkula-based property dealer, which was parked in Sector 11. Ashok Kumar, a resident of Sector 17, returned to find the side-window of the car broken and his briefcase missing.

What happened later?

Police have found no clue relating to the theft till date.

Police say

Station House Officer, Sector 5 Panchkula, Balwant Rai said: "There has been no major breakthrough in most recent cases."

Panchkula Superintendent of Police Sandeep Khirwar said: "Though we have not uncovered any clues in the Morni murder case, we have received some vital clues in the other cases. We hope to solve all the cases soon."
