Chandigarh, February 6 A Delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, led by state unit chief Kamla Sharma, met UT Home Secretary Krishna Mohan on Wednesday and demanded more doctors be posted at the Government Hospital, Manimajra.

In a memorandum submitted to the home secretary, the leaders said no replacement has been provided after a physician was transferred from the hospital, which is causing great inconvenience to the patients. The delegation also demanded a child specialist and a skin specialist for the hospital.

In a press statement, Kamla Sharma said the population of Manimajra and its surrounding areas — Indira Colony, Mauli Jagran, Mauli village, Vikas Nagar and Mansa Devi Complex — is over 2 lakh and the hospital does not have adequate staff to cater to them. She said at least two physicians should be posted in the hospital.

Stating that the ENT doctor posted in the hospital turns up only twice a week, Sharma demanded posting of a regular specialist.

The home secretary assured the delegation of looking into the demands sympathetically, the statement said.
