A secret you discovered about Mumbai?
When I found out you’re supposed to pay the auto rickshaws Re 1 less, I felt like that was a secret. The clubs that you enter through the kitchen after 3 am is another. Where to get a beer at 4 am is another.
An Indian product or service you can’t do without?
My tiffin service from a family from Goa. Deliveries to the house like McDonalds of course.
Any fashion tips?
Khakis are always in fashion in San Francisco, where I’m from.
Dared to try street food?
I like my vada pav with two chillis. Some foreigners do like spicy food. Pani puri of course. There is a place across the street from Shopper’s Stop in Bandra that sells Turkish Style Doner Kebabs on the street.
A phrase you’re bound to hear?
“What country you from? Do you like India?”
Your road experiences?
I almost got left by a bus to Goa during a rest stop. My best trip was a hiking trek to Rajmachhi mountain just outside of Mumbai.
What is sexy about Mumbai?
The girls hanging out at Just around the Corner in Bandra. Taking a cab around old downtown. Shiro next to Hard Rock Café is very sexy.
Have you been conned yet?
I don’t know about being conned but I get overcharged all the time. My Indian friends hate street shopping with me because I make everything more expensive for them.
Truly, madly, deeply, Mumbai...
The food, I think, is underrated.
What are the similarities or differences between Mumbai and your hometown?
San Francisco is also a super cosmopolitan place like Mumbai. People ‘go with the flow’ there like Mumbai. But there is virtually no Mexican food here; I miss that.
Mumbai, the cultural capital?
It’s in the top five.
