Ludhiana, October 14 With the festival of Karwachauth falling on October 17 barely two days away, a number of stalls of mehndi and bangles come up in city markets.

Mehndi artists are charging Rs 50 per hand as of now, but plan to raise it further to encash the festive spirit. Kamal Rana, another artist, said,”We will double the price tomorrow and the day after tomorrow it will be Rs 150 per hand.”

Dinesh Kumar, a Bikaner-based artist, said, “My whole family is here for decorating women’s hands with the special kali mehndi of Rajasthan.”

Beauty parlours are also offering special packages on Karwachauth. Indira Ahluwalia of Grace beauty parlour said, “We have about 50 new designs for the customers.” They are charging between Rs 500 to Rs 1500 per hand. Many beauty parlours are also offering packages of beauty treatments, at Rs to 350 to 1000.

The bangle-sellers have actually encroached a lot of space on roadside to facilitate lavish decorations. At many places, shopkeepers have displayed bangles outside their shops to attract customers. Decorative karwas and thalis have also made their appearance this time.
