In a public interest litigation filed by Gurbax Singh Shergill, a resident of Sector 27-A, Chandigarh, Shergill has sought orders to prepare the plan, so that future planning in periphery of Chandigarh is made in consonance with the regional plan.
The HC asked the concerned authorities to prepare a master plan/draft development for the remaining periphery area of Chandigarh, in terms of the Punjab New Capital Control Act, 1952.
Shergill has demanded that the parties should be directed not to acquire the remaining areas in the periphery of Chandigarh as not to implement the ad hoc projects without framing the master plan.
“The entire development of Chandigarh after the Chandigarh Master Plan is totally based on ad hoc decisions,” the petition reads. The petitioner has stated that the undirected growth will not only spoil the set-up of Chandigarh but will also spoil the ecological balance.
