Kolkata, March 11 Blame game reigned supreme on the eve of the students’ union election at Presidency College on Tuesday.

Independent Consolidation (IC) members alleged that CPM-backed SFI supporters had threatened the family members of their candidates. IC member and college General Secretary Dipanjan Sinha said, “We are taking all our candidates to an undisclosed location where they will spend the night.”

SFI members, however, denied the allegations and said that one of their supporters was beaten up and admitted to the medical college.

IC members also alleged that by accusing them of bogus voting, SFI had purposely postponed the panel election last year by a month.

“SFI members had beaten up two of our boys last year. We had to take shelter in the principal’s room as SFI members from other colleges had also come in,” alleged an IC supporter.

To this, SFI president Mayukh Biswas said, “We were right in postponing the panel elections as we wanted an investigating committee to be set up to look into the case of bogus voters.”

He also denied that any IC candidate or their family members have been threatened.

Independent Consolidation (IC), Democratic Students Organisation (DSO) and the students’ wing of SUCI had come together on Monday for a pre-election combine for the polls against the CPM-backed SFI.
