She also gave her assent to another law that will hike the monthly salary of vice-president M H Ansari's salary from Rs 40,000 to Rs 1.25 lakh per month.
The hike comes a year after the Cabinet considered a proposal seeking an increment to the salary of India’s First Citizen and enhancing post-retirement benefits for former Presidents and Vice-Presidents.
Earlier, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, had taken a decision to rationalise the salaries.
The hike comes close on the heels of government announcing a bonanza for its employees by implementing the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission report under which a secretary at the Centre will draw Rs 80,000 a month.
Immediately after the hike was announced, President Pratibha Patil contributed a month's salary to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund towards the relief and rehabilitation of those affected by Bihar floods.
The salary of President, which was fixed at Rs 10,000 in the Constitution, was gradually raised to Rs 50,000 a month in 1998 with effect from January 1, 1996.
Almost everything that the President does or wants to do is taken care of by the annual Rs 22.5-crore budget that the Government allots for his upkeep.

A three-fold increase in salary from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1,50,000 works out to a 200% increase. [Increase by every Rs. 50,000 represents a 100% increase].

In india there is one law which is made by british rulers at the time when india has not got freedom ,according to that law in india no one can get salary greter than president of india. so when our govt. thought to reduce the braindrain which is because of less salary in india first we have to increase salary of president so according to sixth pay commission the salary of president was increased. this law was not changed because there is no any change in quamma and fullstop of 'govt of india act(1935)' and 'indian constitution '. The President of India is the supreme authority, she has to approve her own salary, but she cannot demand a salary. The monthly pay gets decided by the pay commision, and simply because there is no higher authority than the President Of India, she has to approve her own salary. Something even the Prime Minister Of India cannot do.!!!
Shame less Lady has okyed her salary hike with out any hesitation! It shows the quality of people who made her the president with out considering a second term for the Great Abdul Kalam. These idiots are born to live at the cost of others. May God bless them!
i have all the respect for the president,but i dont think that the pay hike isjustified.because whatever a president does each & every expenses are taken ofgovernment, also on what basis or consideration the salary's been hiked.If its due to the designation then she should think again as there are many parts in india where people dont earn even 1500 a month.A leader should always think of his people first, and every political party should think the same way if they joined politics to serve their country people.
My opinion is to increase the salaries for OUR LEADERS., Y b'coz even for software employees their is huge salaries but one who rule our nations will have less. This is not fair. Kindly increase the salaries of our LEADERS. Some of our LEADERS who is very sincere with his work, but they didnt even buid their house with their salaries. It makes me remember when HH APJ Abdul Kalam paid for the personal releatives attended him, as reported by his staff. When Kalam refused to take a flower from the presidential garden saying its national property. Still he uses his old age time even educating and brightening the life of the future of the nation at Anna University. Distributing his staff among civil depts. which was unsuable to him. Taking only two rooms when he was alloted twenty..Prez should be a role model for the nation.. NOT AN EMPLOYEE RISING HER OWN SALARY..The Legend who made the country proud was Abdul Kalam. What a shame to India when crores of people are starving and President and Vice President are having all the facilities, should they require salary? Are they called employees. They themselves must think and learn SERVICE, SACRIFICE and PATRIOTISM and not to be told by comon persons. This is why poverty and crimes are increasing at an alarming rate in the country. This is Gandhi loyalty advantage. She has not declared her assets-which she should have done voluntarily in reality.-The NDA govt. objected to her presidential post but the Shiv Sena created trouble in BJP-Sena alliance in support of a Maharashtrian president. The police was investing the involvement of her husband and brother in the (though unrelated) murder of a teacher. Thus to an extent her character has tainted already. She said she would not be a rubber stamp president. And yet she has rubber-stamped (OKEYED) her OWN salary to the tune of 300%. I am sure ex-president Abdul Kalam would not have rubber stamped this sort of salary.
The posts of President and Vice-President should be made honorary. They are not elected by the people directly and it is an honor to be given the post. Plus they have NO expenses. it is a free ride for them and their families. So what is this nonsense about increasing their pay? Call me, I'll be President for free.In any case, I am just as good or even better than this non-entity we have now.
I am sincerely amazed as to why the posts of President and Vice-president and the likes carry even a salary. With the huge number and amount of benefits that these posts carry, I can only be disappointed to hear of the 300% rise ! It would be great if the government realised the contribution of the armed forces rather and look at ways to improve and encourage them by one possible way of increasing their salary.
The position of Presiden and The VP in India should be honorary, no pay to them as they do nothing as such; specially a president like her who can raise personal salary 300%, a shameless president, should be dragged down by public to the street. Every ten years the pay commission is constituted for hiking the salries for the central Govt Employees. When the salaries are raised by 20% to 30% there is hue and cry i.e Armed forces who are fighting for the nation , guarding the frontiers.Whereas there is no commission required for raising the salries of President VP, and CJI .HC SC judges . This is India . See the increase in salries and the percentage of hike , whose money ?. It is high time this country must be brought under military rule.

Donating a months salary by Pratibha Patil for flood relief is no big deal.She and her family has looted millions of rupees of grants and misappropriated poor peoples money in their cooperative banks and other welfare schemes
Pratibha patil was listening to voices from the soul of a dead baba of rajasthan, before she became the president. Now Baba may have asked her to have more salary so that she can help set up a shrine for baba. so what is the problem guys?
