Kolkata, June 9 The Bengalis felt the heat of high market prices while treating their son-in-laws on Jamai Shoshti -- the son-in-laws’ day. The favourite hilsa and galda chingri were not affordable for many as the prices of hilsa were close to Rs. 450 per kilo. Some decided to settle for pabda, which was available at Rs.200 per kilo. Mangoes and litchi were also dearer.

Also, contrary to the earlier trend of celebrating the festival, many families now prefer to treat their son-in-laws in restaurants. Keeping this in mind, many city restaurants made special arrangements for this occasion. For example famous restaurant Bhojohori Manna has declared the whole week as 'Jamai Shoshti week' and has decided to introduce a huge variety of Bengali items in their menu. Similarly, other restaurants like Grain Of Salt and Oh! Calcutta, kept special lunch bouquets which included items like mung dal, echorer chop, chitol macher muitha and also various varieties of chingri, ilish and mutton.
