Ambala, January 28 The Ambala police, late tonight, nabbed a proclaimed offender Kuldip Shahpuria who was also carrying an award of Rs 20,000 on his head.

Shahpuria was released on parole from Karnal jail only four days ago following the death of his mother. He, however, did not return and allegedly started demanding ransom from industrialists of Ambala Cantonment. He was arrested along with his two accomplices near his village.

Shahpuria was sentenced to life imprisonment in a case of murder of one Rajinder alias Bobby and was shifted to Karnal jail.

After jumping parole, Shahpuria allegedly sent threatening letters to Ambala-based industrialist and Janhit Party leader Tilak Raj Taneja and a fruit dealer Vikas Manchanda demanding a ransom of Rs 10 lakh from each.

Both Taneja and Manchanda approached the police, after which a trap, under Superintendent of Police KV Ramanna, was laid to successfully nab the notorious gangster.

The police also arrested two of Shahpuria’s accomplices along with some weapons.
