Prof J S Bajaj to inaugurate new PGI academic session

Chandigarh, January 4 Professor emeritus and the chairman of the Academic Council, National Academy of Medical Sciences, Prof J S Bajaj, will inaugurate the new academic session of the institute at Bhargava Auditorium on Monday.

He will address the new residents who have joined the PGIMER for the next academic session.

Professor Bajaj is presently the vice-chairman of the State Planning Board. Earlier, he had served as the member (health) of the National Planning Commission (from 1991-98) and steered the development of national policy and plans for population stabilisation, environmental and public health, nutrition and medical education.

The new academic session of the PGIMER will begin on January 7 with 50 candidates joining the MD/MS courses in major specialties like anesthesia, medicine, nuclear medicine, gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry, orthosurgery, radio diagnosis, general surgery, microbiology and pathology. In the present session, 21 students have joined the DM / Mch in cardiology, gastroenterology, nephrology, neurology, cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, urology and surgical gastroenterology. Seven students have also enrolled themselves for PhD courses in the institute.
