Prominent names doing rounds for next UT Home Secretary

Chandigarh, February 21 With the Centre refusing to give a further extension to UT Home Secretary Krishna Mohan, names to replace him have already started doing the rounds in the official circles here.

Krishna Mohan, whose three-year deputation as Home Secretary ended in the first week of December last, would continue in UT only till March 31.

The Centre, in a communication to the UT Advisor, informed about the rejection of Mohan’s extension for the next one year and allowed the Home Secretary to continue only till the next month end. The UT would now seek a fresh panel of officers from Haryana for new Home Secretary.

Meanwhile, the prominent names for the next Home Secretary include K K Khandelwal, DPR and Additional Principal Secretary, CM and his wife Dheera Khandelwal, who is special secretary Personnel, Parliamentary Affairs.

The Khandelwal couple is considered close to Principal Secretary CM, Haryana M L Tayal. Also in the fray are Jyoti Arora, MD Power Generation Corporation, and R K Khullar, Commissioner MC Faridabad.

Earlier, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and UT Administrator General SF Rodrigues had strongly recommended Mohan’s extension to the MHA at least by one more year.

In all, Mohan, an IAS officer of 1977 batch of Haryana cadre, served in UT for 8 years.

He was earlier the Deputy Commissioner here for five years and then returned as Home Secretary in 2003.
