Bhopal The Bandra police has filed a case against Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan for allegedly making comments about Prophet Mohammad but the actor said it is a writing error and not a thought or view that he believes in.

"We have registered an FIR against Shah Rukh Khan after we received an application from an advocate who alleged that the actor made some statements hurting the sentiments of Muslims," said senior police inspector of Bandra police station, Prakash George.

The complaint was registered against Shah Rukh and the publisher of the magazine in which the purported remarks were published.

Complainant Khalid Babu Querishi alleged that in the July issue of the ‘Time and Style’ magazine, Shah Rukh had used objectionable language against the Prophet which is unacceptable," George said.

The case was registered under section 295-a (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious sentiments) and 34 (acts done by several persons with common interest) of IPC.

In a message, the actor who is currently abroad shooting for Karan Johar's "My Name is Khan", said that there is no more important figure in history than Prophet Mohammad. "Being a Muslim and standing up for the tenets of Islam is my most important agenda," he said.

The actor's response came a day after a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against him.

Referring to protests on the issue, Shah Rukh said, "If they have seen my interviews about Islam and the Prophet, they should know that it is a writing error and not a thought or view I believe in."

He said, "for all practical purposes... Prophet Mohammad is the most important positive figure in Islam". Khan's statement will be recorded on his return from the US.

SRK effigy beaten with shoes

The protestors, gathered at Jehangirabad square after Friday prayers, beat up Shah Rukh's effigy with footwear to vent their anger with film star.

Later, they dispersed peacefully at the end of the protest which lasted about 30 minutes.

Shah Rukh in an interview to a magazine compared Prophet Mohammed with Adolf Hitler and Winston Churchill.

Roz-e-Qayamat by NaimatUllah on 26 Jun 2009

i believe that a muslim like sharokh khan well pay the price on Roz-e-Qayamat from Allah

Reaction by Saqib on 25 Jun 2009

I don't know the truth but being a muslim by birth such comparison doesn't toleratable. Shahrukh is muslim by birth as well. He must realise the punishment at Roz-e-Qayamat.

lets not believe what we are made to believe by mahjabeen ali on 25 Jun 2009

well i dont think that such a famous personality like shahrukh khan who is loved by people from all races would say something as malicious as alleged because this might jeoperdise his career and he being a person who calculates every step before taking it cannot do so. it should also be noticed that this can also be done by his rivals as he is very much liked by all and earlier too there have been attempts by politicians to attack his image.

Product of secularsim by Ghulam ali on 25 Jun 2009

Whetever expressed by Shah Rukh , must be probed, if he is found guilty he should be punished as per Indian constitution. His personal life symbolises non-muslim attitude but being a son of muslim parents he atleast should have followed the minimum values of islam.

Comments SRK about Muhammad (PBUH) by Khalid Chandio on 23 Jun 2009

This is first time that people are saying all about this for Shah Rukh Khan but infact he is not a Muslim. He has a mandir in his home than how he is muslim. I don't mean to say any thing wrong about the other religions they are respectable for Muslims but I mean, if some one is Hindu he must follow the Rules

shahrukh's comments by yasir on 23 Jun 2009

It is time to do something with stupid people like shahrukh khan, I believe that a muslim who is passing such comments should not killed but put in jail and should not allow to see anybody or light...........

SRK comment by Farhana Rana on 23 Jun 2009

There is no compulsion in religion, but no one should insult by suralisheikh on 23 Jun 2009

Many readers commenting here totally misunderstand the issue. It is not a question of tolerance or freedom of speech. Take a hard core, real fundamentalist Marxist Communist( Jyoti Basu, Anil Biswan and Buddhadeb have not fully reached that distinction, more than these leaders) and if he says the free market economy without any Govt. intervention is the best, what would you think of him. He is a lunatic, he is a traitor, has renounced the association of Communism. Same thing. Islam is an Association and it has its God given constitution called the Qur’an. It is up to Shahrukh or any Muslim to declare the formula and accept the principles at least in theory or leave the Association and declare that he is a free thinker, or an atheist or Communist or a Hindu (if Hinduism allows what some of the readers say) or whatever. We do not want Shahrukh and his ilk to keep the cake and eat it too.The choice is his. The Qur’an says “There is no compulsion in religion”

MUHAMMAD(PBUH) by naeem on 22 Jun 2009

SRK HAVE NO RIGHTS TO SAY WRONG ABOUT MUHAMMAD(PBUH) MAIN SRK KO LIKE KARTA THA AS ACTOR BUT NOW I HATE 2 MUCH WITH SHARUKH IF U SAID WRONG ABOUT OUR PROPHET IN THIS CAUSE U R NOT MUSLIM U SHOULD SAY SORRY 2 OUR PROPHET AND 2 OUR ALLAHA THEN MAY B ALLAHA AND MUHAMMAD (PBUH) MAY FORGIVE U AND RRK U SHOULD DOBARA ISLAAM JOIN KARO

SRK STATEMENT by Mohammed on 22 Jun 2009

Sharukh have no rights to talk about Islam or the prophet because He doesn’t follow the Islam and the Prophet He is Just an Actor. If he told this words of comparison about Prophet means he has to pay for it in this world and after the death as well but if he didn’t say any thing bad but someone make the rumors means they have to keep in there mind one thing our prophet Mohammed Mustafa (Sallallahu Alaihi wasallam) is after Allah JallaJalalahu and know one in this world on universe to compare with him. And some want to say some unreligious people says something about the Islam or the Prophet means they are splitting on the sky and the result they know.

Apologise Tone !! by Hidayat Khan on 22 Jun 2009

If Shahrukh himself admitting that he has not said anything and his recent statement about Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H) that “there is no more important figure in history than Prophet Mohammad, Being a Muslim and standing up for the tenets of Islam is my most important agenda" should stop all controversies. I think Indian muslims are now mature enough to judge what shall hurt religious sentiments.

Regious Comment Controversy of Shah Rukh Khan by Rameshwar Singh on 22 Jun 2009

Indian law against 'the hate speech' goes too far and severely restricts the freedom of speech. People who may make truthful statement on a religion they will be charged. For example, if two quotations are offered from Quran, which show contradiction is punishable under the Indian law. This is against the spirit of democracy. It should be amemded.
