Durban, March 18: With the world's top ODI batsman - Graeme Smith - leading them, the South Africans are all set to "thump" India in the upcoming three-match Test series, feels Proteas' Cricket Board chief Gerald Majola.

Lauding the in-form Smith for guiding the team to the top of the ICC ODI rankings, Majola said the South Africans will be a tough proposition for the home side.

"Cricket South Africa (CSA) salutes Graeme on remarkable achievements at such a young age. Graeme's leadership qualities have really come to the fore, and CSA is confident that he will take the Proteas to the number 1 spot in Tests as well," Majola said in a statement.

"India beware in the forthcoming three match Test series which starts in Chennai next week. Graeme Smith and his boys are going to thump Anil Kumble and his charges," he added.

The 27-year-old Smith became the top ODI batsman displacing Sachin Tendulkar after a fine run of form in the series against Bangladesh. The CSA chief lavished praise on the left-hander for his remarkable form with the bat.

"At the age of 27, Graeme Smith has set several landmarks which put him among the best young captain/batsman yet produced in world cricket," he said.

The Proteas, under Graeme's leadership, have finished the international season as the No. 1 ODI team in world cricket and are looking to take second spot in the Test ratings," he added, lauding Smith's leadership.

Smith is the only South African with four Test double hundreds and he holds the world record for the highest first wicket partnership in Tests with Neil McKenzie - 415 v Bangladesh at Chittagong.

Wake up who???? by Sethu on 19 Mar 2008

India did not win the test series and 20/20 agreed but australia won the test series courtesy UNMPIRES.

Yes wake up. by Brian on 19 Mar 2008

Just like India won the first ODI final courtesy of the umpire.

benson n bucknor by Indi on 19 Mar 2008

Perhaps if bucknor and benson had umpired, aussies would have won the one day series too.

Who will thump whom? by Anand on 19 Mar 2008

Who will thump who?? Majola is trying to play the dangerous sledging game that the Aussies play. May be he thinks that India get aroused only when its Australia playing this now 'old game of provoking'. But India dont have any particular liking for any country. If provoked, they will destroy anybody. May be Majola wants to make the series interesting

Whatever! Barking dogs, seldom bite! by Hemant on 19 Mar 2008

Get your racial crap under control first. Anyway, just let your game talk and shut your pie hole.

SA series by kp on 19 Mar 2008

Good luck to SA, with their rhetoric. Its not same India ! We have beaten Aussies in their den . SA will have to face the wily quartet of Ishant , Irfan Pathan, RP and Sreesanth and offcourse Kumble. Yes and all of them in their back yard and against coach who knoews SA weaknesses.

2 ODI's wins is not a series win,,wake up. by Brian on 19 Mar 2008

You did not beat Australia in the Test series nor did you beat Australia in the 20/20 game, India won the last 2 ODI's because of one batsman named sachin, just a reminder 11 games played against Australia, India won 4, Australia won 5, with 1 draw and 1 no-result, wake up to yourself and realise India has a long way to go.

indian play by heart by srini on 25 Mar 2008

indians play the game from their heart and not by mere strategies, and that is where they can be fatal. If india wnats to win, It will no matter who is against them, they will be perished without doubt neglecting the matter of numbers

Bucknor n benson by Indi on 19 Mar 2008

You forgot to mention bucknor and benson, who was instrumental in cheating India in sydney test along with sydney robbers, hayden, symonds, clarke and there leader ponting. Perhaps if bucknor and benson had umpired, aussies would have won the one day series too.

reply by Joby on 19 Mar 2008

No Brian, we did not win test series, we did not win anything in australia.. is that giving peace of mind for you?

If you say so. by Brian on 19 Mar 2008

You won 4 games and well played they where but you are not kings of the world.

But not beggars by Sethu on 19 Mar 2008

We are not kings of the world but we are not beggars like you. Throw away pakistan tour for the sake of IPL money.

800 million beggers at least by Brian on 20 Mar 2008

I would say you have 800 million beggers at least, maybe you would like to go to pakistan or maybe the Indian team will tour there soon???

Super beggars by Sethu on 20 Mar 2008

You hypocrites will never accept the truth. If your GILLY is not happy about players auction why the hell he is coming to play in IPL. And the other THUG Hayden why he wants to compromise with harbhajan now after the tour is over. India showed the world how these guys were winning so far- by sledging not by playing.

Taliking in the air by Jacob George on 18 Mar 2008

Majola is simply in a fool's world. He is making Smith's life difficult. Now if they don't win hands down, Majola has nothing to lose but Smith is caught up in shame !! Pity you...

Thump who? by Prafull on 18 Mar 2008

Majola is forgetting that they have beaten Bangla desh.Smith got his runs agains them whereas Sachin got his No.1 position by beating the world champions.Beatin India in India?

SA goes the OZ way!! by E. Kaushik on 18 Mar 2008

Mr. Majola sees an opportunity to raise the stakes of a series by his word play. He seems to have taken the same route as the Aussies to raise the profile of the series. I don't say they cannot beat us but "thump" us? I think that is a bit preposterous. This, though, is in keeping with the recent realization that has dawned on a lot of teams. Test cricket is war out there and not tiddlywinks! What they are forgetting is that the paying public is sick and tired of these games. India, I think, is yet to recover from the Aussie games and SA has already started theirs. I sincerely hope people are still interested in the game and all these off-field comments do not divert attention from that!
