"We have asked our team management to lodge a protest to the ICC match referee against the wrong umpiring decisions made today by Steve Bucknor. The wrong decisions made by Bucknor have been commented upon by all cricketers and analysts alike," said BCCI vice president Rajiv Shukla.
"I am sure the International Cricket Council will be monitoring the matter in Dubai and take appropriate actions," Shukla said.
Australian batsman Andrew Symonds was caught by MS Dhoni off Ishant Sharma when on 30 but to the horror of the Indian team, Bucknor decided he was not out. Symonds went on to score an unbeaten 137 to spearhead a great recovery after the hosts were tottering at 134 for six at one stage.
Symonds was also given another 'life' by third umpire Bruce Oxenford who ruled him not out when he was stumped by Dhoni off Anil Kumble a little later.
Earlier, Australian skipper Ricky Ponting too was lucky to escape a caught behind appeal when on 17 before going on to complete a half century. Mark Benson was the umpire who did not uphold the confident appeal.

RatingWhen likes of Dicky Bird and Swaroop Kishan pointed their finger up in the air, there was air of confidence, impartiality and impeccable judgment that never been questioned. They brought respect to the game. But off late some umpires made laughing stock of cricket, bringing disgrace to the game that can destroy spirit of it. Every fan of cricket knows when the wrong decision is made under pressure, due to human error or giving benefit of doubt to the batsman. But some decisions are really fatuous in nature and they raise question on the integrity of the person who is standing over there and who is supposed to protect the spirit of the game and not death of it. Thanks to the technological development every spectator and viewer of TV channel telecasting the game knows what is happening over there. No one is naïve in this regard excepting the one who is giving wrong decision purposefully and thinks of getting away from it. If they can not perform properly they better get out and let some one do that job as there is no dearth for it in terms of talent or integrity.
WOW what an umpiring!!! When the technology is available why these guys not using it? Then they cannot decide the out come of the game. Steve Bucknor is allergic to Indians it seems. It is high time for him to be kicked out. The beauty and the result of games are spoilt by such atrocious umpiring. We should ask for camera and other available gadgets to verify the decisions. If the game do not change with time very soon it will loose relevance.
What would it take for the ICC to be convinced that Steve Bucknor should be retired immediately. While mistakes can happen, the alarming regularity with which he seems to make them should not be overlooked.Apart from the fortunes and spirits of an entire nation we are also talking about the careers of individual cricketers who have struggled to appear on the test scene. They have a big price to pay for such bad decisions. What price does Steve Bucknor pay?- nothing career limiting it seems as he continues to officiate in test matches even though several complaints have been made.Third umpires should be used for all doubtful decisions other then the height and direction of the ball which should be the only decisions that cannot be challenged.Australia is a better side on most days and hence the number of mistakes they make are fewer. If however they are not given out when they are, then how can India ever beat Australia on any day with umpires like Steve Bucknor. It would be better to have an Australian umpire to officiate who may make the occasional wrong call that some may interpret as a ‘patriotic decision’- then a let a bad neutral umpire loose to sully the reputation, hard work and careers of cricketers.Or is it the case that the umpire that umpires these umpires also need to be woken up?
