Mohali, July 22 With several Sikh organisations calling a Punjab and Haryana bandh, Mohali will remain under tight security on Wednesday. The bandh call has been given against the killing of a Sikh, allegedly by the followers of the controversial Dera Sacha Sauda.

Some leaders of the Sikh organisations met on Tuesday and decided to hold a peaceful demonstration against the Dera.

As a precautionary measure, most private schools in Mohali have announced closure on Wednesday.

Government schools and offices will function as usual.

Speaking to Newsline, Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police Jatinder Singh Aulakh said though no major impact was expected, the police would set up special checkposts and intensify patrolling in the district.

“No one will be allowed to disturb the law and order situation and anybody found doing so will be dealt with sternly,” warned Aulakh.

In Chandigarh, SSP S S Srivastava said the police were prepared to tackle any untoward situation arising out of the bandh. “Any person trying to disrupt peace or causing nuisance will be arrested,” he said. Schools will remain open.
