Also on the cards are a golf range, habitat centre, city centre, world trade centre and a knowledge city for the township.

The proposed bus terminal, to be developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, would be spread on 6.6 acres opposite Verka Milk Plant, Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB) has stated in a public notice inviting expression of interest.

The private developer would be responsible for financing, construction and operation of the proposed terminal.

A Singapore-based company Jurong Corporation has already been engaged by the state government for preparing the masterplan of Mohali.

The corporation, too, is making the masterplan of the 200-acre city centre in the township.

It will be a commercial area on the lines of Sector 17 in Chandigarh.

The government not only plans to woo back the fleeing investers, but also has all the intentions of keeping them moored here by setting up a World Trade Centre (WTC) in Mohali.

“The WTC would be built on public-private partnership (PPP) mode, and we are going to invite expressions of interest in the coming days. A nine-acre patch of land, belonging to PSIEC, has been earmarked for the project,” said an official.

Also coming up in Sector 68 is a habitat centre on the lines of India Habitat Centre, but on a smaller scale than its Delhi counterpart. The centre would also house recreational facilities for the corporate crowd. It would also have clubs, gyms and other avenues of entertainment.

Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB) is being made the executing authority for the ultra-modern project — likely to be a skyscraper — which would have corporate offices, community centres and exhibition facilities for the benefit of big corporate companies.

A golf range and academy, spread over 16 acres in Phase XI, Mohali, opposite Mohali Club will be the first facility for golf players of the area. The range will be constructed by the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) and later maintained and run by a committee headed by the Punjab Chief Secretary.

It will have a clubhouse, restaurant, conference hall, yoga room, library, gymnasium and also a separate facility for indoor games.

A Knowledge City, to be set up at Sector 81, will house Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Nanotechnology, NABI, Bio-Technology and Management Institute. It will be spread over 400 acres. The government has already acquired land for the project.
