The army, however, continued to flag march in most areas.
The dawn-to-dusk bandh by the fans of Tamang to protest the 'derogatory' comments by a radio jockey of a Delhi-based private FM channel was also withdrawn from Darjeeling sadar and Kurseong sub-divison.
The curfew was lifted at 2 pm after review of the situation, District Magistrate Rajesh Pandey said.
But it was still to be in force in 11 sensitive areas in the commerical hub, including the inter-state Tenzing Norgay bus terminus, the railway station area and Mahabirsthan till Saturday morning, when the situation would be reviewed again, he said.
Flag marches by four army columns and two companies of para-military forces would continue till tomorrow morning, he said, adding all educational institutions in Siliguri sub-division would be closed till Monday as a precautionary measure.
Tamang has appealed for maintaining peace and tranquility as ‘violence has no place in song or music’.

I think tamang fans should not make a roit if one RJ made some comment , he should surely be kicked out of fm channel and jailed. Some RJ's just cross the line while talking with a loose toungue
Whatever said and done this years Indian Idol will put of the spirit of many talented singers. I am not against the person but the quality of singing. If this is the way it goes the day will not be far all the political parties will field their own singers and campaign for votes. Indian voters have proved why goons are still governing us.
