The four were remanded to police custody for varying periods by a local court in connection with the death of 19-year-old Aman Kachroo, a student of Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda.
Aman, an alumnus of DPS International, Delhi and a resident of Gurgaon, had died on Sunday night in a hospital in Tanda due to severe injuries. His family alleged that he was slapped, punched and kicked many times on the head and chest by his seniors who also shaved off his head.
Taking serious note of the incident, the state government ordered a magisterial probe into the incident and promised stern action against the guilty. College principal Suresh Sankhayan was also replaced by Anil Chauhan, Head of Department of Opthalmology.
Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal sought a detailed report on the incident from college authorities which suspended a hostel warden, manager and two guards.
While two second year students Ajay Kumar Verma and Naveen Verma, who were arrested on Monday, were remanded to police custody till March 13 by District and Sessions judge P S Rana, Abhinav Verma and Mukul Sharma surrendered today and were sent to police custody till March 16.
A case has been registered against them under section 304 of IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) with Kangra police station, Superintendent of Police of Kangra district Atul Kumar Fulzule said.
They have been also booked under the anti-ragging ordinance.
The magisterial inquiry will look in detail the cause of death of the student Aman Kachroo and also fix role and responsibility of the involved people in the unfortunate incident, Health Minister Rajeev Bindal said.
As a precautionary measure, a police team comprising an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI), two head constables and 25 constables has been deployed on the college premises. Classes, which were suspended on Monday in the wake of Aman's death, however, resumed on Tuesday.
In Gurgaon on the outskirts of Delhi, a shocked family of the student, who was cremated at the Lodhi Crematorium in the national capital, said the boy was subjected to immense violence and demanded action against the medical college.
Rohit Kachroo, his uncle, said Aman had told his parents about the ragging in the institute. "He had told his parents about the ragging. We did not think, it will turn this violent," he said.
"I spoke to him last Thursday only. He told me that he lodged a complaint with the house warden. No action was taken," claimed a friend of Aman.
"He told me seniors used to call him up at around 3 AM or 4 AM and would even ask him to get alcohol from market and if he didn't they would beat him up," he claimed.
Virkein Dhar, a cousin of the victim, claimed Aman was tortured for over two hours along with other juniors after the four seniors managed to get inside the hostel after bribing the guard.
Condemning the ragging incident, Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss said "killing (of the student) is something really not acceptable. Strong anti-ragging measures should be taken and whoever is responsible should be punished".
The Supreme Court had in 2007 directed educational institutions to register criminal cases against those indulging in ragging activities.

I think its a worst situation that the educational institutes are facing today, the students responsible for these kind of acts should be punished, however just punishing them will not resolve the problem, there should be an awareness, the parents
It is murder and the murderer should be dealt accordingly. Hope Indian Police, Judiciary and the system rise to the occassion. The principal should be charged with abeting and a party to murder. He has smartly resigned to absolve himself of all responsibility. The principal fellow should either be hanged or put behind bars for life; his degree forefeited.
Not only these Verma students but their parents should also be killed, infact stoned to death for giving birth to such monsters. Then only will justice prevail.
Hello Indian authorities and media, what is the status now. What are the developments on the investigation? You (media)are briefing every seconds, if any dirty politician got any problems. Did you forget about this issue, we would like to see the follow up on this issue from you. Only responsible media can do in India. BJP is busy with BJD and cong(I) is busy with all other parties for the support. TN politicians are very much worried about Sri Lankans. Then who got worry about this family who lost a son? Hence media (resoponsible) shall take the lead on this issue. Please raise your voice, the citizen India does not have power for that. Our fate is to Vote for all dirty guys. Hai Ho or Hai Hind does not matter for us..............
The culprits should be severly punished as early as possible. This will have positive effect on any body deciding to rag the freshers in future.
Kick the Verma students to death as revenge too. That will not only get rid of scum on earth, but also be a strong deterrence to cowardly perverts who bully and rag.
My son is studying in USA. He joined last year when I had gone woth him to put him in the dorm. I was amazed to see the polite behaviour of seniors. A group of volunteers from senior classes was formed who were not only taking care of Freshman but also the parents. One group of boys rushed to us with a list in their hand and took us to the room. I passed from India and saw just the opposit behaviour- as soon as parents were gone they jumped upon their prey the freshmen in the collge. It is shameful.
The root cause of ragging is no moral education in schools. We should eradicate ragging by giving proper moral values to our children at home. I personally suggest compulsory moral education subject from 1st to 10th Standard. Books like Shiv Khera's "You Can Win" can be added to syllabus.
They are also terrorists. Immediate Punishement is required without any mercy to them. Then only all students will understand on what they are doing.
This is an immensely serious matter. Ragging goes on unabated in so many schools
As long we got this helpless system we can not descipline the students. All these students who are related to our so called politicians try to dominate the campus by using their politicle influence and act like goondas. The law should be so severe and should be for everyone including our politicians relatives. I really feel sorry for the family who lost precious son. Make them pay for their act, please dont spare them
It is a total failure of India's justice and security system. I think, we have no other option left. It is not a local issue. All of our collages are suffering from this.We shall seek the help of gangsters/mavoist or any other such organizations as one gentleman sujjested below. Our media will forget it slowly. They are very much intersted in writing news related to dirty politics. Hay Media do some social work. Media should not forget the meaning of Journalism. Really we Indians are not happy with any of you. Each of you are infavour of each political parties. We would like to see the culprits punished before the general elections. Special force shall be created to protects students from ths, that shall also done before the elections.Other wise we shall boycot the election process. Why wee need a govt, who can not protect our son, daughters, brothers and sisters. Supension and resignations and registering cases are not enough.Set up special court today itself.
These raggers should be punished like a criminal. It's a serious crime and is beyond any mercy. The political parties also should rise above their individual ideas come forward to eradicate this ugly system.
There is nothing called harmless ragging. All sorts of ragging are causing some damage in the psyche of the victims. So the culprits should punished to the maximum extend. No one has the right to insult another one in this world.
Ragging is indulged in only by the young, that too by college students. Harmless ragging should be institutionalised. Students should be made to realise that it is for their own good. Parents and the college authorities should not interfere in students' affairs.
Indian law makers shall act immediately and Govt shall show its political will to implement that. The raging issue is very serious in India. None of the news comming out, because all the guys involved in this is either the kids of politicians or high ranking officers. Death penalty shall be give for this crime. Better we may ask Renukaji for right decision. Only she can advice properly.
This kind of nonsense is tolerated by only by us Indians. Now tomorrow on Holi day, many will become blind because some chamical is used in the colour which blinds people.God help us all!
It should be only death for the culprits and nothing less.
