Mumbai, March 10 Top seeds Raghav Mehrotra and Ben Kennedy of Otters Club fashioned contrasting victories, while second seed Rajat Agarwal shocked No. 1 Yohan Surti to emerge supreme, in the Just Kids Squash Championship, organized by the Squash Professional Association at the Otters Club, Bandra.

Boys under-9 top seed Ben Kennedy, son of former England player Mandy Kennedy, kicked off an eventful final day of close contests and upsets when he clinched the title with an exciting 11-5, 11-5, 9-11, 11-8 victory over unseeded Aman Rawal of Spring Club in the best-of-five games encounter.

After breezing through the opening two games, Kennedy was surprised when Rawal snatched a tight third game. Rawal ran Kennedy close again in the crucial fourth, but vital winners proved decisive for Kennedy.

Number one Raghav Mehrotra bagged the boys under-13 crown following a convincing 11-5, 11-4, 11-1 triumph over formidable Arjun Kochhar of CCI.

But second seed Rajat Agarwal of Khar Gymkhana toppled No. 1 Yohan Surti of Willingdon Sports Club 18-16, 11-6, 11-6 in an exciting boys’ under-11 final, which kicked off with a gripping marathon opening game that stretched into extra points.

Unseeded Daksha Pathak of Hiranandani Club fashioned the other upset when she shocked top seed Aditi Raheja of Otters Club 11-1, 11-1, 11-1 for the girls’ under-9 crown.

Girls under-15 top seed Saumya Karki and under-13 No. 1 Aishwarya Kulkarni, both of Hiranandani Club, lived up to their reputations to clinch their respective titles in contrasting fashion.

While Karki breezed past Avantika Rajani of Otters 11-1, 11-1, 11-2, Kulkarni endured a tight opening game before overcoming second seed Yashna Shetty of Andheri Recreation Club 12-10, 11-2, 11-2.

Ishan Jaffar of Otters Club, who featured in the boys’ under-9 category, was adjudged the ‘Most Promising Player’ of the tournament.

Results(All finals): BOYS: Under-15: Akash Borwankar (Club Aquaria) bt Samir Mistry (Otters) 9-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-6.

Under-13: Raghav Mehrotra (Otters) bt Arjun Kochhar (CCI) 11-5, 11-4, 11-1.

Under-11: Rajat Agarwal (Khar Gym) bt Yohan Surti (Willingdon) 18-16, 11-6, 11-6.

Under-9: Ben Kennedy (Otters) bt Aman Rawal (Spring Club) 11-5, 11-5, 9-11, 11-8.

GIRLS: Under-15: Saumya Karki (Hiranandani) bt Avantika Rajani (Otters) 11-1, 11-1, 11-2.

Under-13: Aishwarya Kulkarni (Hiranandani) bt Yashna Shetty (Andheri Recreation Club) 12-10, 11-2, 11-2.

Under-11: Jui Kalgutkar (Chembur Gym) bt Gayatri Raheja (Otters) 5-11, 11-7, 11-2, 11-4.

Under-9: Daksha Pathak (Hiranandani) bt Aditi Raheja (Otters) 11-1, 11-1, 11-1.

Most Promising Player: Ishan Jaffar (Otters, boys’ under-9)
