A R Rahman

New York Music maestro A R Rahman created history by becoming the first Indian to win Golden Globe award for his music score for 'Slumdog Millionaire' at the prestigious award ceremony on Monday.

Rahman's song 'Jai Ho,' penned by lyricist Gulzar, has won the coveted prize of Best Original Music Score at the Golden Globes.

The film which depicts the story of a Mumbai underdog's rags-to-riches run, is on a winning spree and has so far bagged three Golden Globe awards – Best Original Music

Score for Rahman, Best Screenplay for Simon Beaufoy and Best Director for Danny Boyle.

'Slumdog' is based on a novel by Indian diplomat Vikas Swarup and stars Bollywood actors Anil Kapoor and Irrfan Khan in lead among others.

The film has been shot at various locations in Mumbai, including the railway Victoria Terminus, which was targeted by terrorists on November 26, last year.

Boyle's feel-good film depicts the moving story of a slum dweller Jamaal, who goes on to win USD 20 million on Indian reality show 'Who Wants to Be A Millionaire?' in a bid to win his love back.

With its golden run at the Globe awards, 'Slumdog's prospects at Oscar awards next month have brightened.

Slap to Bollywood by vik on 12 Jan 2009

Its a shame a foreign filmmaker comes to Bombay, works on a indian's novel, makes a film with Indian actors, and wins golden globe, whereas our so called movie (masala) makers churning out hundreds of movies every year, could not make a movie worth nominating into main section for many decades. You know what is the difference..it is the bollywood LENSE..that these masala movie makers add to filter the reality in every aspect of film making. I have never seen such a contrast in movie making between the film and reality as I find in most of the worthless bollywood movies. Bollywood better start taking it as a form of the art, rather than money spinning machine feeding senseless violence and melodrama to the hapless billion. They forget you can make even bigger money if you make a good movie. But when you see such a deterioration in every walk of the life, how can film industry be left behind.

O man. This man is God. Congratulations...Keep it up Rahman

Pity mediocracy by Murthy on 12 Jan 2009

If Rahman's Melodyless music can wing Golden Globe award, I pity the jury who selected such music without melody. Rahman's music is not hummable second time unlike Shankar Jaikishna's/Naushad's. I think music has fallen from grace. If every year some one composes music for awards I think that is not music. Creativity can not come in every film music.

reply to murthy by imran on 12 Feb 2009

murthy baja apni ghanti and see what music it makes because thats the music which murthy likes

Pity Mediocracy by Yemut on 12 Jan 2009

That's exactly the point. It gives great pleasure to listen. But it is not 'hummable'(sic) by Asses and Donkeys and certain 'Murthys'

Pity Mediocracy by N Rawat on 13 Jan 2009

Mostly 'Murthys'.
