New Delhi, July 22: Amid the political acrimony during the trust vote debate, Rahul Gandhi today disarmed the BJP when he heaped praise on former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for working to ease energy shortage.

Flagging the point that energy security was vital to reduce poverty and to maintain growth while batting for the Indo-US nuclear deal, the scion of the Gandhi family made a mention of Vajpayee’s role.

Participating in the trust vote debate, Gandhi first praised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for showing “tremendous courage and confidence” by realising the problem of energy deficiency in the country and working for its solution.

In the same breath, Gandhi praised Vajpayee saying he “also saw the problem (of energy deficiency) and worked for its solution” in remarks that took the saffron party members by surprise.

Apparently finding no response to his charitable remark about the leader of a rival party, Gandhi pointedly looked towards the BJP benches and quipped : “ispe taali mariye, ispe to taali mariye (at least, clap for this)."

Cost of Election by Khader Mohiuddin on 22 Jul 2008

Thrusting election on Indian masses who are already facing untold problems due to steep inflation is criminal acts of opposition parties.CPM who claims to fight for common man and they crocodile tears for inflation is all bull shit. They know very well, withdrawing support to government meant imposing an election on Indian. As rightly pointed out by other readers, the overseas communist masters of CPM, basically cannot digest that India surpass them or become equally strong. Obviously they are pulling strings and they jokers doing dirty tricks in India.Evidently, no party has any sympathy for common man's suffering, they just want their money or power.Shame on politicians, as Indian, we should reject and punish the politicians thru ballot boxes. Make sure, they corrupt politicians DO NOT represent us, better bring in some honest ex-public servants with good goverance records to steer our country. An proud Indian and good muslim.Long live India

Yuvraj ki Jai ! by cyril on 22 Jul 2008

Finally, a new chapter in indian politics, a chapter of civilized talk and affirmitive action, not the rowdy talk and inaction of the previous generation. Today i know that the future of my nation is secure in the hands of the youth, who represent a majority of the indian population. Rahul Gandhi represents the youth of this great nation, their hopes and their aspirations. Kudos yuvraj, you have so clearly put forward our opinions.
