Mumbai A day after switching over from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) to the Shiv Sena, Shweta Parulkar attributed her move to her growing discomfort with the hate campaign against migrants, the presence of a coterie influencing the decisions of MNS chief Raj Thackeray and her belief that the MNS is not serving the Marathi cause.

Parulkar, who headed the MNS women’s wing till Raj Thackeray dissolved it, said she was unnerved by the way the Marathi campaign had turned into a hate-and-violence campaign.

“There was euphoria and excitement with the way things were going last year for the Marathi campaign. However, I’m not happy with the way things have gone since then. There was no policy and discussion in the party,” said Parulkar.

“There were hardly any meetings where policies or ideas were discussed; it was a coterie around Raj that was deciding everything,” she said.

She said the coterie influences Raj Thackeray’s decisions. Incidentally, when Raj Thackeray broke away from his uncle’s Shiv Sena three years ago, he too said a coterie was guiding the working of the Sena.

Parulkar, however, gave full marks to both Thackeray cousins when it came to leadership qualities. She said Raj Thackeray is a person with great vision but people around him were not thinking about the party.

Also, Parulkar did not express any regrets for being associated with MNS. The former actress had teamed up with Raj Thackeray when he formed the MNS.

She said a group within the MNS was working against her during the Lok Sabha elections, which forced her to rethink about her presence in the party.

“I was affected when I realised that some people were working against me during the elections,” said Parulkar, who won over one lakh votes from Mumbai South Central. “After the elections, it became clear the MNS candidates had helped the Congress-NCP. The aim of working for Maharashtrians was not met.”

Parulkar says that despite heading an important party wing, she was not taken into confidence when the decision to dissolve it was taken. “There are many things that I came to know from the media. There was no discussion in meetings. Despite being the president, I was not consulted when the decision was taken.”

Eye opener by Kalidas M on 11 Jul 2009

This should serve as an eye opener for Mr Raj. Hatred corrodes the container. What he should aim at with all the manpower at his disposal, are the goondas of all cadre irrespective of their state or whatever operating openly in Mumbai. All goondas have police-politician's supports and they are on rampage. How many bogus doctors and mantriks of UP and Bihar are operating so openly in Mumabi and Maharashtra, do you know? Good folks of Mumbai are awaiting a saviour to help them out of so many uncontrollable situations. CONGRESS is a goonda party for sure, but Raj should first earn a good name by doing much needed social service and then think of all other things. Can he not learn a good lesson from SS's misdoings? Many of us are in need of correct legal, medical, social help. Raj should concentrate on that first. If his people become strong on all these areas, the others would not simply dare. I ca not put it down all, but he should get the message, otherwise, he is on the way down already

SWITCH OVER by NIRANJAN on 11 Jul 2009

WELL, THE LADY HAS FALLEN FROM THE BOILING POT INTO A FIRE. SO, WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE? BOTH SENAs ARE BASED ON THE SAME PRINCIPLES OF HATRED TOWARDS ALL NON-MARATHI PEOPLE. BOTH BELIEVE IN DESTRUCTION OF PRIVATE AND PUBLIC PROPERTY FOR VERY SIMPLE AND INANE CAUSES. AND BOTH DO NOT BELIEVE IN DOING ANYTHING POSITIVE FOR ANYONE. SO, LADY, GROW UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!
