New York, October 2: Suggesting that India was witnessing reverse brain drain, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has said a large number of experienced Indians are returning home to start new ventures or work in research institutions, proving late Premier Rajiv Gandhi right.

Addressing the Indian American community in New York on Monday evening, she noted there was a time when people used to complain about ‘brain drain’.

However, her husband Rajiv Gandhi emphatically believed it was actually a ‘brain bank’.

"I am happy to see that he has been proved correct as a large number of Indians with experience abroad are returning to start new ventures and businesses or work in universities and research institutions," she said.

The area of ‘brain bank’ is not the only field in which Rajiv has proved correct but in several other areas also, she added.

The government, she said, has created the Ministry for Overseas Indians to specifically take care of non-resident Indians and their problems.

In this context, she mentioned a plan to help women deserted by their overseas spouses. "Perhaps the problem is not that much in the United States but it a growing problem in the United Kingdom and other countries," she said.
