K'taka crisis: Compromise formula being worked out

Janardhan Reddy

New Delhi BJP leadership is understood to have offered a compromise formula under which Rural Development Minister Shobha Karandlaje may be removed in an attempt to buy peace with Karnataka dissidents who were still said to be gunning for Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.

Party President Rajnath Singh ruled out change of leadership in the state saying it is not negotiable as top leaders conveyed to Tourism Minister and dissident leader Janardhana Reddy that some of their demands could be met, party sources said.

This includes removal of Karandlaje, who is said to be close to the Chief Minister and whose ouster is one of the major demands of the Reddy brothers, the sources said.

The other points in the compromise formula are meeting the demands like making Speaker Jagdish Shettar a Cabinet Minister and transfer of the Chief Minister's Principal Secretary P V Baligar, they said.

It was not immediately clear whether the compromise formula was acceptable to the dissidents. In an effort to resolve the crisis stalking the first BJP government in the South, top party leaders, including Rajnath Singh, Venkaiah Naidu, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley and Ananth Kumar held a series of meetings among themselves and with Janardhana Reddy.

Naidu, who along with other senior leaders Ananth Kumar, Sushma Swaraj and Jaitley held discussions with Janardhana Reddy, said "the crisis will be resolved in a day or two." Janardhana Reddy parried questions on whether the reported compromise formula was acceptable to him.

"I will not meet the Chief Minister. Why are you asking me this? Why should I meet him? I will not meet the CM at all," he shot back at reporters after the meeting.

Reddy, who has been camping here for last three days, said he has met all the senior party leaders, including Rajnath Singh, and explained to them in detail "what I have been saying for the past five six days."

Mentioning all the leaders, including L K Advani by name, he expressed the hope that the party high command would take a "very very good decision" in the interest of the state, party and development. He voiced confidence that the party would provide "good leadership" to the state.

Reddy, along with his brother Revenue Minister Karunakara Reddy has been spearheading campaign against Yeddyurappa. Earlier Yeddyurappa sought to reach out to the dissidents, saying he was "trying his level best" to meet Janardhana Reddy and his brother Karunakara Reddy. Reddy, however, immediately rebuffed him, saying "I will not meet the Chief Minister at all".

The party leaders told him that his public comments against the Chief Minister were not acceptable.

Reddy brothers are looting the wealth by shivanagowda on 06 Nov 2009

The Reddy brothers are looting the wealth of Karnataka and selling it to some other country. They should be prosecuted for Theft, extortion and Dacoity.

THE REAL FACE OF SANGH by Baskar on 06 Nov 2009

Madhu Koda, the discredited former Jharkhand CM is a former RSS Swayamsevak. Do I need to say more about the degradation of moral values in the Sangh Parivar ??

Karnataka by janney on 06 Nov 2009

The central govt made the way for looters to make money at the cost of the poor people. Instead of exporting ore they could have made steel here and then export. All is is done to loot this country by looters.

Medicine needed by Ravi on 06 Nov 2009

Looks like it is time for Karnataka BJP leaders to drink some Cow Urine Cola and re-vitalize their tiny bird-brains.

Nationalise all natural resources, don't allow crony capatilists in this area, all minerol wealth. by Raman on 06 Nov 2009

Solution to Reddys and Kodas.. etc.. Nationalize all natural resources! Don't allow crony-capitalism where individuals like Koda or Reddys loot the nation to become billionares. Their wealth creation is not like those of Infosis, Wipro or reliance where real stuff is made along with money. They just steal natural resources like Iron ore, coal its and sell to China. It should be stopped.

Rich Mallya joined Congress, why rich Reddys joined BJP ? by Boby Mehta on 06 Nov 2009

I would like to remind readers that some MLAs in Gujarat were also after CM Narender Modi but at that time Mr. Modi and BJP leadership completely isolated and sidelined the rebels and in the next elections many rebels lost their seats. Now it is happening in Karnataka. Modi formula should be applied in Karnataka. I am sure that Congress implanted Reddys to disturb the BJP government. Suspicious thing is that rich and corrupt people join Congress for illgotten wealth but Reddys joined BJP. BJP must keep a sharp watch on Congress and Deve Gowda. If Congress can buy MPs for crores of rupees they can buy Reddys easily.

WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT BJP by R Sundar on 06 Nov 2009

You are another Knickerwallah who will always find fault with the Congress for everything wrong going on in the BJP. Please understand that Gujarat and Karnataka are entirely different and what is applicable in Gujarat cannot be done in Karnataka. It was the Yeddy and BJP which propped up the Reddys to come to power and now they are paying the price for it.

BJP CRISIS In Karnataka by A N Krishnaprasad on 05 Nov 2009

One should always think before becoming friend with Devils.Once you are,you have to face the trouble. So is Yediurappa is in problems.God bless our people.

Pot calling the kettle black by Ganesh S on 05 Nov 2009

Where are all those Loh Purush lovers gone ? Where is the Loh Purush ? This party has nothing but rhetoric and few well crafted words to give to India.Even their famous wordsmith Atal is now in the evening of his illustrious life.He was their last hope.Instead on following his moderate path, this foolish party keeps sticking to their own ancient stands on issues while it gets progressively marginalised in today's India. Why are they not being FIRM ? Why cant they throw their lot with Yeduvirappa ? Why cant they throw out Reddy brothers ? Afterall isnt this party an expert in THROWING OUT people ? It is because Reddy brothers have all the dark secrets of how this government was formed in Karnakata.Something was promised to them and promise as always not kept.So they are only worried about their business interests.Instead on keeping on harping on Congress and its blunders the BJP lovers would do the country a service if they force their party to take charge of itself and give us an option

Reddy Bros by D.A.ESWAR on 06 Nov 2009

Do you suggest Congress throw out Jagan Mohan Reddy in AP and Sonia Gandhi for BOFORS from congress? Allow BJP to settle problems and rule Karnataka as people have voted for them and not you

MY FOOT by R Sundar on 06 Nov 2009

People voted for BJP in Karnataka. Another misleading propoganda. The BJP just got 35% of the votes and even one percentage less than the Congress, yet got more seats due to the defective first past the poll system. It also did not get a majority, but only engineered defections from the Congress and JDS making them resign their seats and contest elections once again to manufacture a majority. All these were done with the blessings and largesse of the Reddys. Now that Yeddy is putting a spanner in their works due to his own personal benefit, the Reddys have revolted. The moral of the story is what you sow, you shall reap.

brave yeddi!! by kiran on 05 Nov 2009

My respect for yeddi has gone up.he stood against money power and showed that he is a true leader.reddy brothers wanted a leader like dharam singh( now jagadeesh shettar!)who is harmless and useless!!.shame to those MLAs saccumb to money power, perticularly north karnataka MLAs,you are cheating ur innocent people,by supporting money n illegal activities in the state. I am pround of being a kannadiga, and having a great leader.

HEY SANGHI LISTEN by R Sundar on 06 Nov 2009

What is brave about Yeddy ? It was he who propped up the Reddys in Karnataka by allowing them to loot the State for their own and his Party's and personal benefit and he is now reaping the harvest. When the push comes to shove, he is trying to make all kinds of compromises with the Reddys to stay in power. He is calling them brother, father etc. and blabbering and you are calling this brave. Check up your brain Sanghi.

PARTY AND CM SHOULD TAKE ACTION AGAINST THE REDDY BROTHERS by RAJESH KULKARNI on 05 Nov 2009

When the state is reeling under the flood devastation, the Reddy Brothers and the MLAs of the same region are neglecting the region and fighting for the power, this shamful act of Reddy Brothers is causing damage to the party and the State CM is helpless and unable to concentrate on the flood relief work to be undertaken immediately. The Party and the CM should not bend before the Reddy Brothers instead take serious action against them.

B.J.P by SHAKTI on 05 Nov 2009

in my opinion YEDURAPPA is good honest leader, but these money draicula's[reddy bros]are blackmailing him for there benefit as they own mines in bellary,BJP centerhead shud remove therse reddy's from the party and KARNATAKA govt shud take action like those taken ON Madhu Koda...put them in jail..

UNDERSTAND THE SITUATION by R Sundar on 06 Nov 2009

It is your so-called Yeddy who propped up the Reddys by giving all kinds of concessions to them for looting the State's precious resources for thier own and the Party's benefit. By the way, three of the Reddy Brothers are in Government. He used the Reddys to outwit the Opposition and he is now paying for it dearly.

People of Karnataka fooled by Murthy on 05 Nov 2009

We voted BJP to power with pride and expecting clean govt. What we got now, is worse than JD(s) and now we feel no choice but fall on feet of Congress to save karnataka from looting.

BJP by Krishna on 05 Nov 2009

This and other problems of BJP clearly indicate that the discipline got erroded to such a level that no one is cared about the idelogy. All are behind power and name and money. This needs to be stopped. Wake up BJP, India need a good oposition. You people are fighting each other and never bothers about the publich. Please come together and forget about the power politics, do good things for the country.

It is such a simple. Kick out these Reddy Brothers by Naim Naqvi on 05 Nov 2009

For once let the BJP demostrate that its a party with a difference. These Reddy brothers aren't fighting for any principle. It's just a fight for loot of the national resources. It seems CM has shown some courage and challenged their might in their den. Let the BJP kick out these wily brothers and show the nation that sometimes at least it can stand for principles and act in national interest.

YEDYURAPPA SHOULD THROW THEM OUT AND RULE WITH STRONG. by MUSLIM BHAGAWAT on 05 Nov 2009

YEDURAPPA SHOULD THROW THESE TWO BLACKMAILERS BROTHERS OUT.THEIR MINES SHOULD EB NATIONASILED.THEIR PROPERTIES BE ATTACHED BY THE GOVT UNDER ANTI-CORRUPTION ACT.THEIR WHOLE OF CRIMINAL BACKGROUND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND POLICE SHOULD BE ASKED TO FRAME CHARGS ON THEM.THERE IS NO WAY OUT.IF THE CM WOULD TAKE SUCH STEPS HE CAN MUSTER THE SUPPORT OF OTHERS WHO ARE SITTING ON THE FENCE OR HE SHOULD RESIGN AND GO FOR NEW ELECTIONS.

Those who live by the Reddys shall die by them by Anand on 05 Nov 2009

If Yediyurappa, finds himself in the vortex of an ugly political row triggered off by the challenge to his leadership by his onetime confidants turned political rivals, the Reddy brothers, he has none to blame but himself. Because it was he and his party, which discovered the Reddy brothers, nurtured them and used them as convenient tools for achieving their political objectives. And, in the process, gave on a platter the political standing, name and respectability to the Reddys. It is an open secret that the operation Kamala was entirely scripted, financed and executed by the Reddys. For the favours received, the party obliged the Reddys in myriad ways. Yediyurappa went literally out of the way accommodate all sorts of demands of the Reddys. Now that the Reddys ambitions have gone further high and they are now eying the CM post, BJP has realized that they have bitten more than they can chew. It is like a Tiger overriding the rider.

Reddy's beware... by Gurudatt Prabhu on 05 Nov 2009

DO NOT yield to Reddy's..Wants rule with money power.Karnataka BJP foght elections with Yedyurappa's leadership. If Reddy's want a new leader, they should fight election again.Stop this drama Mr.Reddy's...Peopel of KArnataka are not fools

BJP ALWAYS KNEW THE CHARACTER OF REDDY BROTHERS by HARDTRUTH on 05 Nov 2009

Since long, BJP knew the character of the Reddy (Bellary Mining) brothers and that these brothers could blackmail and create problems in the future. So why did they associate with them? Why? Because they are hungry for power. Therefore, BJP cannot be termed as being different from other political parties. If BJP wants to prove that they are different, then they should support their CM and get rid of the Reddy brothers. Even if their government is de-stabilised and removed /replaced, BJP should have the character

Discipline or dissidence? by jyosyulu on 05 Nov 2009

BJP top brass should be strong enough and should not bend before money power of Gali brothers. It only hits on the knees of the party. They should be stern even if the party has to lose its government for the time being. The party should establish its suprimacy over individuals and show to the world tht it is definitely a party with difference and discipline, which never tolerate dissidance.

Politics behind politics by Vikas on 05 Nov 2009

Reddys revolt was to happen as they lost their godfather YSR in Andhra. This drama is surely going to be repeated in AP with Jagan acting like Reddys of Karnataka. Congress party also should be ready to face the music soon!
