Raju

Hyderabad "He has let down everyone, but he is not a criminal," that's how the public here seem to be backing Satyam's former chairman B Ramalinga Raju.

Telugu news channels are flooded with such SMSs backing Raju.

Raju received an overwhelming public support through an SMS survey conducted by different Telugu news channels yesterday which asked viewers if Raju is guilty and whether he should be arrested.

The question received an instant reply 'NO' through SMSs on an average by 90 per cent of the respondents.

Many of the SMSs said Raju was not a criminal and that he was brave enough to admit to the wrongdoings worth thousands of crores of rupees.

Another SMS read, "Politicians..., We don't vote for you. We love Raju."

Raju on Wednesday admitted of fraud to the Board of Directors of Satyam Computer Services and owned up that Satyam's accounts were fudged to the tune of Rs 7,000 crore.

After quitting as Satyam's chairman Raju said, "I am now prepared to subject myself to the laws of land and face consequences thereof." He eventually surrendered before Andhra Pradesh police last night.

About B Ramalinga Raju by Siva Kumar on 17 Jan 2009

He Should Work As Good After Finishing This Issu

Raju is a criminal by Sam on 13 Jan 2009

People must be mad to suggest that Raju is a criminal. He defrauded Rs 7000 crores, by lying and fudging bank accounts. Just because he admitted to wrongdoing does not make him any less guilty. he must be treated as any other white collar criminal. India should take a lesson from what happened to Enron chief, and give Mr. Raju exemplary punishment. Obviously Andhra government is hand in glove and will resist the rule of law.

Capital Punishment by Nidhi on 13 Jan 2009

Well what does the guy in the street understand the implication of a crime like this? The people who conduct this survey should be asking this of accountants, corporates, lawyers not the aam janta who wouldn't understand what a "cookie jar" was if it fell on their head. Raju's crime other than the money he embezzeled/falsified has led to the erosion of around 7% in the BSE, future investments in India. What is the cost of that? Isn't that criminal? He didn't commit murder but he defrauded the nation. He should be tried for treason against the people of India and if found guilty, we should seize the property of Maytas to repay investors and awarded him life imprisonment.

God Bess SATYAM by Mayank Toshniwal on 12 Jan 2009

Raju is the only person who can revive SATYAM. I m wid him, the whole nation is wid him.

As all you guys are supporting Raju so strongly and putting him up compared to the politician country wont be surprised if Raju joins politics once he bail out. Andhra has actor politician now they will have IT Politician. Are you guys loosers ? In 21st Century sitting with caste, creed , State etc.,Whom and what you guys are trying ti safe gueard. He has given job to 53000 employees so what about money of all those investors who has got badly hit around the country ? Just because you admit your crime after 7 good years after building complete business model for his two sons and sister concerns. Do we really require this kind of robinhood?

We The People by kabir on 12 Jan 2009

People all over India are same in one matter - we love criminals of our caste, language, region and have a different set of standards for them - Andhraites are no exception.

Why Raju surrendered by Sriram on 12 Jan 2009

Read the article in The Telegraph.Enron chief who committed fraud for 2500 Crores was imprisoned for 45 years. Now that Raju surrendered to AP Police, he will atmost get 2-3 years SI after 30 years of court case. GOI will not extradiate him till the Indian court gives 'result'. Meanwhile the Andhar people will build a temple for him and he will enter politics. He will grad more and more land.

Raju bros can now enter Politics. Lets find out if they have committed any physical crimes like kidnapping, rape, dacoity etc. Or may be a modern age politician as he has committed e-fraud.Cant one Satyam employee file a case against the cheater Raju ?

Satyam deserved it ... by Ex-Satyamite on 12 Jan 2009

I have worked with Satyam for 5 years and to be honest Satyam deserved the situation it's in currently. There were lots of irregularities like .. local people (telgu) were preferred fo r promotions and hikes. This is evident if you look at the high level management team (most of the are his close friends and relatives from AP)Also, when I along wiht many people were without work (on bench), Satyam management still showed profits and bluffed investors saying that it added lots of new clients which was all false. The bottom line is, the Raju's are cheaters and they have played with common man's money. They are corporate terriorists and they deserve punishment. I know people from AP will not like my message, but who care. They have spoiled the name of Indian corporates. Shame on you RAJU's .. you deserved it.

Don't be a loser by Sandeep R. on 12 Jan 2009

Your comments sound like bad loser's whining. All the reasons you quoted are not indications of criminal conduct. If you felt that there was any discrimination, you should have filed a public petition rather than waiting for event like this and shouting faceless (or nameless). That said, he has admitted financial irregularities and should be punished appropriately.

Why all kep quite SAHARA-India? by RAWT on 12 Jan 2009

Dont forget SAHARA INDIA, that has been shoved by North Indian Politians under carpet. They ruined many poor lives across India.

A Travesty by Babbi on 12 Jan 2009

Comparison's aside, people are failing to realise as yet the true nature of the crime that has been committed by not just one individual but a group...I wonder what's been happening at PWC, the auditors of Satyam. Raju may be liked and admired for his confessions but he has to eventually pay the price. Definitely, once the skeleton's fall out of the cupboard, public opinion will take a beating.

bailout satyam by bal on 12 Jan 2009

the government must bailout satyam and there is nothing wrong in public supporting raju. not only people of andhra but whole country supports him

I Dont Support Him by Sriram on 12 Jan 2009

'bal' - speak for yourself. You may support economic osama called Raju. May be because you are of same caste, or may be you are also a Telugu.I and millions like me want RAJU to be hanged for soiling Indian corporate name.

Bravo Mr. Raju by True Indian on 12 Jan 2009

It should be appreciated that the braveness shown by Mr. Raju a business tycoon and think how many politician have / had such courage since Jawaharlal Nehru Regime even when he was openly challenged by none other than his son-in-law in parliament and to till date even they were caught red handed and what were the outcome. Nobody knows nothing. We should appreciated that, his statement of the acceptance and his temperament to face the justice

Political Kickbacks by Sriram on 12 Jan 2009

Opposition, which asks for strictest punishment and resignation of Ruling party. Why is it silent ?Because I am sure there is a nexus between TDP, INC and Raju and many more. And the reason Raju 'surrendered' after 3 days is to escape American hounding. Here he can claim to be a heart patient and be out on a Rs 500 bail. Not in America.

Error of Parallax by JayakarDalavai on 12 Jan 2009

A despicable act of greed of immeasurable proportions one can easily say; harmful and perilous business consequences that could impact India’s Global image for many years to come. Encircled by a group of well wishers in, political, financial and social circles can save you for a time. But in the end, it is black against white, facts against deception, truth against lies and finally, fantasy against reality. Yes, people will sympathize with him and can send emotional messages out. What the society must understand is we just don’t live in Andhra Pradesh; we live in world that is much intertwined and difficult to surmise. As someone said, ‘When Wall Street sneezes, Tokyo catches cold.’ Such is the speed with which the global markets are functioning. World is watching, any lenient move could reverberate strongly against India. This could cost India not just Rs. 7000 Crores, but $ 700 Billion down the years. In India, watch dogs are watching but not catching the culprits.

Regional affiliations over values by AJ on 12 Jan 2009

What else can you expect from the Indian public (and media) which eulogizes convicts like Sanjay Datt, jokers (and accused) like Laloo, and elects movie actors as their rulers! In India, regional affiliations and personality scores over values! If the same survey is carried out in rest of India (barring AP), the results would be opposite! I am waiting to see which political party gives a ticket to Mr. Raju - COngress and the Samajwadi Party would be the first - specially if there is a casteist angle! Long live India!

Satyam's Raju more foolish than criminal by Ramana Murthy on 12 Jan 2009

Yes, Raju just did something foolish. The politicians who embroiled him in this are still out there, happy and preparing for the elections of March 2009.

satyam downfall by richard on 12 Jan 2009

Definitely Raju is not a criminal. The Satyam episode shows how we can hold everyone under a leash by using our religion, language and region as the governing principles of our administration. If Satyam employees, and its board were from different linguistic, religious and regional group, Satyam would not have fallen. The losses incurred by Satyam are in someone's bank balance. It is time for us to find out who are those beneficiaries.

Andhraites support Raju by S. Kumar on 12 Jan 2009

There is not surprising that Andhraites support Raju. He is a typical Andhraite Character and hence Andhraites like him. Most of the Andhrites are corrupted and move around with forged certificates. During Chandra Babu Naidu's time also it was seen that 60 % of IT manpower form Andhra have forged docuemnts. Hyderabad is the crime cpaital of India in Documents forgery. Satyam Raju is the best example. They do not have any morale or character. It is known as Bihar of South India. There is nothing surprising that they support a fraud like Raju ex-CEO of Satyam.

What rubbish by Sandeep R. on 12 Jan 2009

What community do you belong to S. Kuram? Could we know please so that we can open your dirty laundry as well? I am not from Andhra (I am from MP), but I know that there is not one area of India, and of the whole world, that does not have mix of good and bad people. Stop being such thickhead and grow up to judge people by their capabilities and character rather than by their region and community.

reply to andhraites support Raju by Manik on 12 Jan 2009

Dear Mr. Kumar,The point that we all need to make and find here today is how could this happen and how we can aviod. Its easy to blame anyone and lets be mature when we try and analyse situations. Before you coin such phrases against anyone/region, make sure you are talking with evidence. If Hyderabad were to be crime capital for forging documents, why are you talking of that now. And how did so called corporate companies hire based on forgery. Wasn't it their requirement first and cross verification next. Everyone blames when things go wrong. Indian IT companies including Satyam have changed life of many in India and aborad and dont tell me you are not earning atleast 5 times what your senior generation has made. You should thank God for the blessings we got because of IT boom in India. Yes, while shooting up in life mistakes happen. But dont just keep post messages like this. And whoever reads my message, I urge them to show some unity and talk about making our country strong against such acts. As long as we are going to indulge ourselves in such basless arguments, we are prey to the other side of the world. They laugh out loud on us and its shame for us to give them a chance though their side might be more dirtier than us; the difference is we open our mouth during wrong times and they act on times when required.

Use your brain AP by Radha on 12 Jan 2009

Guys anyone who cheats is a criminal. It doesn't matter whether he helps, feed poor, employe under qualified or fake certified andhra guys. Manik, kumar is correct. 90 % of the fake certificate holders in IT are from andhra. They have a good network on this. Andhra has spoiled the reputation of IT in India. Now AP guys are praising and worshiping an idiot who cheated the whole world to make wealth.

Well said by Kumar Guru on 12 Jan 2009

AP is certificate forging capital of the world. The 'n' number of satyam employees who are supporting Raju should introspect and take a look around.. Satyam is full of imposters. In my experience of working with the Satyam engineers I often times wondered if this is the famed IT company? It was a shame, it is a shame, it will be a shame..

Who are we to judge by Sandya on 12 Jan 2009

I agree what Raju did shocked people but at heart he is a sincere guy. He had the courage to accept his fault publicly. He helped the poor and needy and also 108 service initiated by him is such a boon. Dont condemn people for one wrong. Help him rectify his faults. I think he deserves another chance. I am sure given another chance he will not let anyone down

why?? by nandini on 12 Jan 2009

Please Madam, I guess all of you are losing. Whom you actually supporting ? I am not very sure how much you know in detailed about this crime but you wanted to give chance to someone who over a period of time continued to do same kind of crime and just get away with it for few things like 108 and EMRI. Someone who simply fooled public and tarnished our country's image in front of the world. You know why this people do socila service, most of the time more than social cause it is for their personal IT purpose. Top of it all of you comparing him with politicians. Why? which way an IT CEO can be compared with few set of useless politicians. Most of the time we condemn act of the politicians instead awarding them. But here Raju been awarded Golden Peacock and so on. Anyways I guess we are in 21st century instead of supporting someone fromown caste and state we should look into broarder cause as Indian pride and Reputation. Raju indeed put up a big question mark on that.

Brave or Surrounded? by Sandeep R. on 12 Jan 2009

It was not courage Sandhya. He was surrounded from all sides and knew that there was no way out. His stake was down and company was a takeover candidate. The irregularities would have got revealed within days anyway. As far as another chance is concerned, I agree that everyone should have another chance, but only once one has paid for the wrongdoings.

Rectify ? by Sriram on 12 Jan 2009

Courage to accept ? Madam, he surrended after 3 long days only to escape American wrath. Where was his consience till then ?Whats the cure for greed ? He claims to be the 'father' of Satyamites. A father who promoted till biological son's company at the cost of others ? Poeple do things but thats to make a name and to hide black money and to gain tax benefits. If he was such a gentleman, let him spend the rest of his life in jail and medicate and pay compensation to the investors, employees, Govt. Its just a matter of time he comes out on bail claiming heart problem and joins INC, TDP, SP....

Raju and his fate by SV sivasubrahmaniam on 12 Jan 2009

This is some thing a strange phenomenon. So far in any fraud bribary case all the public were out raged and at least started scolding the persons. In this particular case it is reverse. I too feel sympathy for Raju. why? I do not know... I also along with some others feel that he would not have done for his sake..No man who reached the pinacle, dreams this stage of life. At the bottom, in a phiilosophical note, he is victim of his destiny.

Andhra by Ganti on 12 Jan 2009

It is the view of Andhra guys. Raju is a criminal and should get a life term in jail.It is andhra fake degree and experiance certificates which spoiled the IT reputation in 1997

NATION by DA on 12 Jan 2009

Like raju, there are many more Indians. This man has undone all the efforts and defamed the nations. Most of the Indians, mainly rich do not know value of the country. Many indian businessmen usually siphon off the funds to tax havens and live like slaves in those countries. Absolutely they dont have any regard for the nation nor they are honourable.

We are a much better place than the USA by Jayadevan on 12 Jan 2009

This is a brave statement to make. We still need to see how much money Raju might have made from the advantage derived from his position as CEO of the Satyam the public knew. At least, there is one consolation. This is a straight case of admission, as compared to Enron, where the executives resorted to strange methods of accounting, insulted critics and made millions trading on Enron shares that they knew as worthless, but were quoting at around $100. Raju confessed to a crime no outsider knew of, the Enron executives were forced to admit wrongdoing - it had to be dragged inch by inch from them. With Maddox, and the scandalous behaviour of the banks (which comes out in some new form every ten years), Enron, the Big Three of the auto industry, and the fact that the executives get away with all their wrongdoing, insider tradiong, fat bonuses and severance packages - we had guys doing this on a smaller scale in the Chambal a long time back- India still seems an investor's paradise.

Re: We are a much better... by Cynic on 12 Jan 2009

This man has singlehandledly ruined his company's reputation, possibly eliminated thousands of employee jobs. The ugly side of corporate greed has surfaced in India as well. This is a matter of someone breaking the laws (in a big way, I might add), and needs to be treated as such. I wonder if you'd be making the same statements if you had invested heavily (and lost money) in Satyam stock?

Satyam Computers by chakra Reddy on 12 Jan 2009

Satyam's chairman Raju created nearly 50 Jobs for Indians. We should not forget about his contributions to IT Industry. He has also honesty agreed his mistakes. We should also give credit for his dedicated services/contribution to IT Industry during last 20 yeara. I am of the opinion that Raju is not a Criminal.
