Hyderabad A city court on Monday deferred to January 22 hearing on separate petitions filed by Satyam's tainted founder Ramalinga Raju seeking bail and special status in jail and another filed by market regulator SEBI seeking custody of Raju and two others.

The 6th additional chief metropolitan magistrate will take up hearing of Raju's plea for bail as also special status in jail on Thursday as he is in police custody till then.

The plea of SEBI for a day's custody would also come up on that day when his custody with the police ends.

The court had sent Raju, his brother Rama Raju and Satyam's former CFO Vadlamani Srinivas to police custody to facilitate a probe into the Rs 7,800 crore financial fraud disclosed by the IT firm's founder on January 7.

Asatyam Raju! by R.Balasundaram on 19 Jan 2009

It is now clear that AP govt is shielding Rajus so that the CM can save his skin. Raju was arrested only after 2 days of own admission of his fraud. Why? Even after his arrest, the proper investigation has not started. The custody, it seems, is to give ample time for Rju to destroy whatever evidence left and help his battery of lawyers to prepare a fool proof case in his defence besides scuttling SEBI from interrogating him! PWC is clearly involved in the crime; why then no one is arrested from PWC? The inflated cash and bank balances were shown year after year in the balance sheet, which were available with banks. Why then the banks have not disputed the inflated figures? The case need to be shifted out of AP;only then a fair trialcan be expected. The life of Raju may be in danger too as hemay have to be silenced to keep big leaders away from the net! It is all the more reason to shift the case from AP!

There are certain things I dont under stand. First and foremost why the three suspects have not yet been separated from each other as it would definitely help the CID to find the contradictions arising from individual interrogorations. Why the SEBI is not yet given access to the accused? Why their bank accounts and other physical assets have not yet been frozen and confiscated? How come none of the Satyam employees who were on camera have listed unimpeachable personal integrity as one of the traits of their would be CEO? How come there is no concerted action from the share holders who suffered wealth erosion of Rs.9800 crores collectively on a signle day? My advise to the Government is to outsource this case to the USA and I am sure then it would be cracked in less than 4 weeks which period may include the trail and sentencing of all the concerned.
