Mangalore Security has been heightened in Mangalore as Sri Rama Sene president Pramod Muthalik was to be produced in a magistrate's court here in connection with the January 24 pub attack where several women were assaulted by activists of the Right-wing Hindu group.

The Sri Rrama Sene, which has 1,000-1,500 cadre in the coastal Karnataka region, has threatened to carry out a state-wide bandh if Muthalik is not released by Thursday evening. The co-convenor of the state unit of the Sene, Jitesh Kumar, said that the group will continue agitating against 'the dilution of Hindu culture and tradition'.

Several leaders linked to Right-wing groups in the region chose to be incommunicado anticipating possible preventive detentions by the police ahead of Muthalik's production in court in the coastal district.

The Mangalore police had arrested Muthalik on Wednesday evening for criminal conspiracy to attack the pub soon after he obtained bail in connection with a case of inciting violence in the central Karnataka district of Davangere.

Inspector General of Police for the western range of Karnataka A M Prasad said that Muthalik will be produced in court on Thursday morning, but refused to specify details on account of security concerns.

While the attention has shifted to the arrest of key Sene leaders like Muthalik and Prasad Attavar, seven of the 27 youths arrested in connection with the attack have secured bail in the case and have been released as of Wednesday. The district police say that they have not been able to record the statements of people who were present at the pub. Though a team from the National Commission for Women is expected to talk to the victims of the attack in Mangalore, the district police have said that they have not been able to find the victims despite the available video evidence.

Several people from college campuses in Mangalore, including student union leaders, who have voiced opinions against the attacks, claimed to have received threats from rival union leaders.

Bandh by Desi Pundit by sena on 30 Jan 2009

Go goons go. We have to protect our glorious Indian culture and put women in their place. Please do not forget to invite your first cousins, the great Talibans, from across the border. They can train you to be little more effective than you have been in past with intimidating the public and governments. Remember your ultimate goal is Ram Raj where monkeys like you will rule.

Mangalore violence by chandrasekar on 29 Jan 2009

What is more shocking and despicable than the Mangalore inciden itself is that the TV crew was there at the place 15minutes before the incident took place and positioned itself for filming the whole thing. That meant they had pror information. Then they should have informed the Police for a pre-emptive action.Actually, when the atack commenced, the crew shouted'action'.This was from the mouth of Mr.Shetty who was a witness and a man who tried to prevent hose attackers. What a predatory sense on the part of this media. They wanted some sensational thing and they got it.Media should be blamed also.

RAM SENA ANTICS by Niranjan on 29 Jan 2009

THESE GOONS KNOW ONLY ONE THING: VIOLENCE. NOW THEY WANT TO MAKE THE ENTIRE STATE SUFFER WITH A BANDH BECAUSE THEIR POOR LEADER IS ROTTING IN JAIL AND RIGHTLY SO. THESE PEOPLE WANT TO ATTACK OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE DIFFERENT VIEWS AND LIFESTYLE. AND THEY ALSO CONDEMN TALIBAN IN THE SAME BREATH. THIS SENA IS NOT AN ORGANIZATION IT IS BLOT ON THE COUNTRY. UNFORTUNATELY THERE ARE TOO MANY DIFFERENT SENAS FOLLOWING THEIR OWN AGENDA. WAH! MERA BHARAT MAHAN.

Ban ALL Western Influences by Tanya on 29 Jan 2009

I would like to laud Mr. Yeddyurappa's steps to ban pub culture. He should not be biased and ban all other western influences that are not part of Indian culture. Here is a list to start withCars,Roads,Railways,Airports and Airplanes,Computers and IT Industry. These are just a few of the disgusting western influences that are not part of our culture. I hope that BJP will ban all these things, if not it might seem like they have certain vested western interests backing them on these issues. I do hope he will replace all ministers cars with beautiful chariots, and replace tarred roads with mud roads. We must also destroy all Metro construction immediately. The BIAL is also a useless western influence to fly from one place to another, we should resist this as well. We should be proud to be Indians who do not want western influences.

ENACT LAW by ANIYAN on 29 Jan 2009

THIS IS A NON EXISTING SO CALLED "SENA", WHICH HAS NO AFFILIATION WITH THE BJP OR SANGH PARIVAR. TAKING LAW IN THEIR HAND AND BEHAVING LIKE GOONDA REQUIRE STRINGENT PUNISHMENT. TAKING HOLY NAME TO EMOTIONALIZE ISSUES OF GOONDAISM SHOULD BE DEALT WITH STRONGLY. KARNATAKA CM DESERVES ALL APPRECIATION FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION AGAINST THE CULPRITS. IT IS FOR THE GOVT TO DECIDE WHETHER PUB IS REQUIRED TO BE ALLOWED IN PUBLIC INTEREST. RAJASTHAN CM ASHOK GEHLOT IS ALSO IN NEWS TALKING AGAINST PUB. IN THE NAME OF DEMOCRACY, IT IS NOT NECESSARY THAT PUBS, KEY SHUFFLING PARTY TO SWAP WIVES ETC TO BE ALLOWED. THIS IS INDEED A VULGAR SYSTEM, WHICH IS EXERCISED UNDER THE COVER OF MANY CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS. THERE SHOULD BE SOME GUIDELINES TO CONTROL CLUBS, PUBS AND SO LIKE ORGANIZATIONS. IF NECESSARY, THE GOVT SHOULD ENACT A LAW TO LEGALLY ALLOW RED STREET AREAS IN ALL STATES.
