Dehradun A case of murder has been registered against the police officials involved in the alleged fake encounter of Ranbir Singh in Dehradun.

An FIR has also been registered against two DSPs Ajay Kumar and G C Tamta on the basis of a complaint of Ranbir's father Rabindra Pal Singh.

The 22-year-old MBA graduate was gunned down by police on last Friday. His autopsy report revealed that he was shot at close range and may have been tortured.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand CM Dr Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank has stated that he is ready to order a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the case pertaining to the police encounter of Ranbir Singh if his parents so want.

Indicating that he might order such a probe, Nishank told media, "We want to proceed in this matter in a transparent manner and hence what matters most is that parents of the victim must be satisfied. I have complete confidence in the high level probe ordered into the matter but I will not hesitate to order a probe by any other agency if they want so."

Meanwhile the demand for a CBI probe has further gained momentum with political parties expressing dissatisfaction over the probe being given to the state CID.

Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Harish Rawat has termed the action taken by the Uttarakhand government in the case as insufficient. “The said incident had caused irreparable damage to the image of the hill state as well as police administration”, he said in a statement.

Leader of opposition in the Uttarakhand Assembly Dr Harak Singh Rawat said that the image of Dehradun has received a beating parents of students studying here have become a worried lot.

The Dehradun Bar Association boycott work on Monday in protest against the killing of Ranbir Singh and demanded strict action against the police personnel said to be involved in the encounter.

Indian Police - they should have a subjects called "law" and "you are not god" in their curriculum by Amit on 08 Jul 2009

People in indian police consider themselves as lawmakers. They decide what is right/wrong. They decide who should live or die and that too - "on the spot". WOW what a freedom. They should have subject in their training which teaches them that they do not become god as soon as they come to police. They should be taught that they are common people in front of law and they will be under scrutiny if they do such horrendous deeds. These freak policemen, when they will begin to think that they are not gods and there is Law and Order which is in place to decide. I think there should be mass public movement and this thing should be considered by public as a whole if they seek their security in future. Otherwise this will keep on increasing day by day as it has been since a long time. Fellow commoners, just answer me one question - can you consider it safe for your sister/daughter to visit a police station ever for anything? No - because Indian Police is lawless. They are killers.

IPS officers to blame by Vipul on 07 Jul 2009

They are all hand in gloves in this MURDER. How long will we allow the IPS officers to be murderers? How long before we will wake up as a society and say this is enough? The IPS/SP should be arrested not trasnferred, and tried for murder and punished.

Covering up the truth by S K Das on 07 Jul 2009

Cruel atrocitiy by Police force by R.Sreekumar on 07 Jul 2009

It is very unfortunate that an MBA pass out resident of Ghaziabad had been gunned down by the Police at Dehradun in a fake encounter. Postmortem report, as per News Paper report, says that he has been killed in a close range. According to the police, he was a criminal. This shows how the police is making stories to protect themelves for a crime committed by them. It is astonishing that even an IPS officer is supporting the police version. This means whether IPS Officer or ordinary police constable are equal in their respective mindset. The matter be investigated by an Independent body such as CBI and not an Authority appointed by the State Government, in order to avoid tampering the records of the case and the Guilty Police Officials, whatever be their status. must be awarded highest degree of punishment.
