The Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI), Bengal has decided to adopt the Women’s Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Gariahat and revamp it with an improved training programme and

better infrastructure.

This was announced by CREDAI chief Pradeep Sureka during the inauguration of Realty EXPO 2008 — a real estate exhibition, organised by CREDAI at the Science City today.

“We have signed the memorandum of understanding with the government. The ITI wo-uld be handed to us on April 1. We plan to bring in new training programmes for women and felicitate job placement interviews,” said Sureka.

The revamping will entail an investment of a “few crores”, including the construction of new floors and classrooms, he added. The government will provide soft loans to partly fund the proposal and CREDAI will mobilise funds from industry sources as well.

Among its other initiatives, individual members of CREDAI are also being encouraged to take up a few pavements in the city and beautify them. Three pavements on Loudon Street, Elgin Road and Ironside Road have already been taken up.

CREDAI is also helping the state fire services department to acquire modern fire-fighting equipment.

Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said the real estate industry in Bengal should focus on developing houses for the low income group and economically weaker sections.
