Reddys refuse to budge, Karnataka crisis drags on

Bangalore/New Delhi The Reddy brothers on Tuesday persisted with their demand for a leadership change in the state even as BJP president Rajnath Singh reiterated that any change in the chief ministership was not possible. While there’s said to be unanimity on retaining Yeddyurappa in the state, sources say there are clearly two views in the BJP on how far the party can go to appease the Bellary lobby or Reddy brothers in the state.

While Rajnath maintained “I said yesterday what I had to say on the issue”, the Reddy brothers — both ministers in the B S Yeddyurappa Cabinet — refused to budge from their position. While Karunakar Reddy claimed in Bangalore that “Rajnath had never talked about retaining Yeddyurappa in the state,” Janardhan Reddy met senior leader Sushma Swaraj and reiterated his demand for a “better leadership in the state”.

“In the interest of BJP and the workers in Karnataka, we need a very good leadership in the state. Whatever my stand is, I am not changing,” said Tourism Minister Janardhan Reddy, after meeting senior leader Sushma Swaraj.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa arrives in the capital late on Wednesday and he’s scheduled to meet central leaders on Thursday.

In Bangalore, Revenue Minister G Karunakar Reddy returned to work on Tuesday for a video conference with officials in the flood-affected districts of the state, but there was no indication of a let-up in the crisis.

Soon after the meeting, Karunakar said no compromise had been struck following the his brother Janardhan’s meetings with senior national BJP leaders.

Karunakar claimed there was no question of abandoning MLAs who had backed them by agreeing to a compromise where the demand for a change of leadership was not addressed.

“Reports that we have agreed to a compromise are incorrect. Some national leaders have expressed their own views. The BJP leadership has, however, not decided anything,” he said, denying BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley’s remarks in Bangalore last week that there was no question of a change in leadership. “Our stand on the issue of change of leadership is firm. We are very firm that good leadership has to come in.”

The Karnataka Revenue Minister claimed that the rebel group had not placed any demands with the central BJP leadership for the dropping of ministers and Yeddyurappa associates from the administration, for a reshuffle of ministries and for greater administrative control in the Reddy brothers’ iron ore-rich home district of Bellary.

“There have been no demands made by Janardhan Reddy, Karunakar Reddy, Sreeramulu. There are a lot of problems faced by the MLAs and the national leaders have been briefed about everything. There is no personal agenda or demands. The only demand is change of leadership,” he said.

Karunakar did not rule out resignations by the rebels in the event of a decision of the national leadership of the BJP not going in their favour. “We have not reached that point yet,” he said.

In other signs of the continuing crisis, senior BJP minister Suresh Kumar, who is in favour of Yeddyurappa continuing as Chief Minister, has written letters to all 117 BJP MLAs, including as many as 60 holed up in hotels in Goa and Hyderabad as supporters of the Reddy group, to introspect on the damage the crisis is doing to the BJP.

Kumar’s written plea came even as four legislators, including senior minister K S Eshwarappa, considered neutral in the Yeddyurappa versus Reddys battle flew to New Delhi to tell leaders that the party is more important than individuals.

Getout Reddy brohter by suresh on 04 Nov 2009

Reddys should go to Andhra if they cannot bear the rule of the Kannadiga Yeddyurappa by Santosh Shetty on 04 Nov 2009

Reddys' original soil is Andhra Pradesh. If they cannot bear the reign of the indigenous Yeddyurappa and Kannadigas they should go to their soil. Karnataka is for Kannadigas, not for Teluguwalas,Hindiwalas, Gujaratis, Baniyans and Marwaris who are only migrants in our soil. Because of these outsiders' presence in our state only, we the indigenous inhabitants of our state are forced to go overseas seeking means of livelihood. Everything incuding houses was available in our city'Bangaluru' on very cheap prices, but now due to the influx of these outsiders, the life in this city has become miserable and everything is costly unaffordable to laymen.Leave us alone you outsiders. To the Teluguwalas and other outsiders who argue that the vijayanagara rulers were telugu's and ruled a large part of karnataka, I pose following question: so,what? So too Tippu Sultan and his father Hyder Ali and should we invite Afghans to rule our Kannadiga soil once again?.It is a bygone period.

Serious situation ?? by chanakya on 04 Nov 2009

Whether it is BJP or Congress. But they must take strict action against these black mailers. First dismiss them from primary membership of the party. Let the by elections be called and let people decide who is right. BJP must act with iron hand with out any hickups for power. Other wise it will loose its image as a good alternative to congress. First intiate cases against these chaps and put them behind bars.

CAMERA SHOULD BE BJP'S SYMBOL by Sudhir on 04 Nov 2009

Instead of Lotus, Camera should be the symbol of BJP as more often than not, its members are frequently caught accepting cash on camera.

It is certain that the BJP at the centre requires reshuffle. We have all along been with BJP but it seems that all the learned ones in BJP are too learneds to join hands and curb dissentions.A message for BJP, please do not impose and let the people's choice prevail.
