Kolkata Regional parties would play an important role in formation of a Third Front government at the Centre after the Lok Sabha elections, CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat claimed on Saturday.

He said these parties parties should not be underestimated as they "are support-based and they fulfil the aspirations of the people. We are talking to them. These parties have an important role to play in government formatation."

He also said that during the election it was not possible to work out common policies with regional parties. "After the elections, we will formulate these policies."

Speaking about the prospects of a Third Front government coming to power, Karat said "I am 100 per cent confident. We are talking with different political parties. "Many people were not believing that the Third Front will come into being before the Lok Sabha polls. Now, it is clear that the Third Front is a reality. The Third way is possible," he said.

Karat stands no one in CPM. It is Buddhadev. by Aniyan on 11 May 2009

Karat, stop your third front talk. Buddhadev has already demanded modest status in the possible congress formed UPA govt and that is the end of it. People no more take any cognizance of your statements as you keep changing statements day IN and day OUT. Now, you negotiate with Sonia and check, whether you can become a PM. This position is very cheap in India now. Anyone can become PM. You too join the race.

Karat and company by rammohan on 11 May 2009

Now Karat and PB has one work left for the next week.Target each party in the Third front when they join either NDA or UPA and criticise them as capitalsit stooges. Your stupid communist parties will be decimated and no one will be interested your support anyway. TRS is already gone. JD will even leave your front in Kerala even though no MP's. Dewa Gouda will be with you less no MP's.The people who matters like Chandra Babu, Jaya Lalitha, will not be with you. Poor Naveen will cut a sorry figure and curse the moment to align with you. They will join either NDA or UPA (more chances for NDA). In fighting in Left Front will be so intense you wont have any time to make any deal either. Carry few fire engines when visiting Kerala and Bengal.

KARAT OR ANY COMMUNIST WANT TO BE 'PM' GO TO ANY COMMUNIST COUNTRY--EXCUSE INDIA, YOU ARE NOT FIT. by dv.sharma on 10 May 2009

If any communist want to become 'PM', they should be shunted out to any communist country where there is a democracy. Karat and company are scattered in many parties in Bengal, Kerla etc., first they should be united with their Ideology.

WHAT QUALIFICATION communists have to stake claim to govern INDIA? by young indian on 10 May 2009

Communists are indulging in all types of disgusting, POLITICAL DRAMA by running from pillar to pillar as though their leadership is crucial for India thinking that they have high moral grounds to do so.. After all what is their qualification...A) They call Modi all kinds of names but what is their track record... KILLINGS of FARMERS in NANDIGRAM and also raping of women by comunist roguesB) They blame congress for "Q" factor connection with BOFERS but does everything to COVER UP corruption of Pinarayi Vijayan in the SNC Lavalin caseC) Big mouths on democracy, socialism but boots out SOMANATH CHATERJI and ABDUL KUTTY as a blatant display of autocracy and fascismD) Opposes AMERICA on IRAQ, IRAN and AFGANISTAN issues but is blind to the ATTROCITIES of CHINA in TIBET, destabilisation in NEPALE) Calls it a working for National interests but is cynically and cunningly SILENT on CHINA's WICKED games in ARUNACHALA PRADESH, SIKKIM and other NE states
