Kolkata, May 6 The Calcutta High Court directed the chief metropolitan magistrate on Tuesday to submit a report on the FIR lodged by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with Rizwanur Rehman’s death case.

The High Court also asked for the copy of the FIR if the metro-politan magistrate’s court had received it in November 2007.

Asoke Todi’s counsel Pradip Ghosh alleged that his client has not received a copy of the FIR from the metropolitan magistrate’s court.

Advocate Kalyan Banerjee, counsel of the Rehman family, in reply said that it was the intention of the counsel to linger the legal proceedings by filing such an application, which was not relevant to the matter.

After the hearing, Justice Dipankar Dutta directed the chief metropolitan magistrate’s court to inform the Bench as to whether it had received a copy of the FIR.

If so, the copy should be submitted by May 12, the day the matter will come up for the next hearing in the Calcutta High Court, he added.
