Kolkata, March 9 Rizwanur Rehman’s mother and brother on Sunday participated in a rally organised by Trinmaool Congress at Park Circus.

Speaking at the rally, Mamata Banerjee alleged that the state government was shielding the police and demanded the immediate arrest of the four police officers, who had allegedly tried to break up Priyanka and Rizwanur’s marriage. She also announced a statewide movement to ensure that the Rehman family gets justice.

“When Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee met me, he promised that I will get justice. Now his government is protecting the police officers who are responsible for my son’s death. I still believe that my son did not commit suicide. Therefore, I have come out on the streets with Mamatadi to demand justice,” said Kishwar Jehan, Rizwanur’s mother.

Despite her ailing health, Jehan walked from their residence to Park Circus crossing under the scorching sun surrounded by Trinamool supporters.

Rizwanur’s brother Rukbanur said, “We are still hopeful that the guilty will be punished and will go to any length to ensure that. Strangely, names of officers like Gyanwant Singh have been dropped from the list of accused who played an active role in the death of my brother.”

“The government is protecting the guilty. We will march and support anyone, be it Trinamool Congress, if they help us to get justice,” he added. The rally, which started from Rizwanur’s house around 2.30 pm, winded its way to Park Circus crossing with TMC supporters raising sogans, also demanding justice for those killed in Nandigram police firing.
