Renovation work on university heritage building restarted

Pune July 08 144-year-old structure to regain lost pride, says V-C

Rs 15 crore project
The total cost of renovation of the university main building is Rs 15 crore, of which Rs 10 crore work started today. The renovation work involves roofing, replacement of damaged stone masonry and wood.

The building was built in 1864 and handed over to the University of Pune in 1948. In 1999, some cosmetic changes were carried out, as it was the diamond jubilee year of the university. Structwell has prepared a detailed plan of the renovation over the last seven months.

Mistry & Company, Venus Constech and M Devang Constructions are the three contractors, which will do the actual work. The Heritage Committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation gave the green signal to start the actual work on July 2. S B Bonde is also involved in this work.
