New Delhi, July 24 With the UPA government winning the trust vote, the Sheila Dikshit government is all set to make the nuclear deal a poll issue in the ensuing Assembly elections in the Capital.

The Delhi government claims that it was not responsible for the price rise and inflation, which are a global phenomena.

The chief minister and other Delhi Congress legislators unanimously passed a resolution celebrating the success of the UPA government and the ‘impact’ of the deal on the progress of the country.

“We hail the Indo-US nuclear deal which will meet the power needs of the country in the future. It will definitely be one of the poll issues in the coming Assembly elections,” said Dikshit on Thursday.

“Everyone today is appreciating the role of the Congress president and the Prime Minister for taking this complex issue of the nuclear deal to a decisive solution,” she said. The formalisation of the Indo-US nuclear deal would not only ensure ample nuclear energy, but will also go a long way in curbing pollution and enhancing the prestige of the country, she added.

Besides the nuclear deal, Dikshit said, the party would also highlight the achievements of the government in the last five years during the elections.

“It is for everybody to see that we have done a lot for the people. More is still to be done, which we promise to carry out when we get the mandate from the people,” she said.

Talking about inflation, Dikshit said she had not received any complaint from the people about it till now. “In my ‘phone-on’ programme, I received complaints regarding stray cattle, potholes on the streets and beggar menace, but not price rise. People understand that inflation is not because of the policies of the Delhi government.”

The CM said prices had stabilised in the last few weeks and the recent subsidy on LPG was one of the steps taken by the government to provide relief to the people.
