A section of counsels of the bar association moved a plea before the bench today, asking for a CBI probe on the spate of violence at Nandigram between November 5 to 12. Advocates of rival groups, Subrata Mukhopadyay and Rabi Shankar Chatterjee, pleaded before the bench that the Bar Association of the High Court had not taken a unanimous decision before filing the petition calling for a CBI probe.

It was alleged that only a section of the bar members took the decision and that the association was acting with political motivation. Many association members, out of about 5,500 advocates, were aggrieved by the decision to file a petition on the renewed violence and recapture of Nandigram by CPI(M) cadres.

The two advocates sought permission from the Bench to file an application in the matter. It was then that the Chief Justice asked them to settle the dispute on the decision of Bar Association outside the court room. After the hearing, advocate Subrata Mukhopadyay and Rabi Shankar Chatterjee told mediapersons that they would file an application with the bench against the petition filed by the Bar.
