Rihanna’s low self-esteem made her return to Brown: Oprah

New York Media mogul Oprah Winfrey has lashed out at Rihanna for reconciling with Chris Brown, who allegedly attacked her, as she feels Rihanna’s low self-esteem made her do what she did.

Oprah Winfrey dedicated an episode on her show to the victims of domestic violence, while talking about Chris Brown, who allegedly attacked Rihanna and left her with horrific injuries.

Winfrey went on to say that the ‘Umbrella’ hitmaker returned to Brown, as she doesn’t feel good about herself.

“Let me tell you why she got back with him, in my opinion. If you go back with a man who hits you, it is because you don't feel you're worthy of being with a man who won't,” ‘The New York Daily News’ quoted Winfrey, as saying on her show.

Winfrey pointed out that if "you think you are a wonderful person, somebody hitting you is really offensive to you."

Winfrey used Brown and Rihanna incident as an example to spend an hour discussing domestic abuse.

"This show is dedicated to all the Rihannas of the world, and to any young men who could ever think about hurting a woman," Winfrey said.

On the other hand talk show host Tyra Banks recalled Rihanna telling her about growing up around parents who were always fighting, resulting in severe migraines.

"It was almost like a living hell for her. The moment her parents separated, her migraines went away,” Tyra said.

On the other hand Tyra revealed that quite contrary to his own actions Brown earlier revealed that his step-father used to beat his mother, something he would never like to put any woman through.

"I don't want to put a woman through the same thing that person put my mom through," Brown said earlier.

Meanwhile Brown, who allegedly attacked Rihanna and left her with a split lip, a bloody nose and bite marks on her hands, has been charged on 2 felony accounts and has been released on a bail of 50,000 dollars until a hearing on April 6th.

I think all the publicity drawn to the Chris/Rihanna saga is counterproductive The Rihannas of the world r now going to be afraid to come forward fearing the scandalous repercussions Oprah should have reached out to those kids in confidence Chris can b reformed He can change Rihanna’s dad has been on drugs all her life He did not lead by example so How can she know what to look for in a man yet he’s quick to talk to the press Everyone is capitalizing on this when the only one suffering is RiRi Have some real compassion already We can help by respecting their privacy She has already heard our take She now has noone else to turn to but him THANKS She is not only a victim but a poster child for what happens when we tell Sadly the public scorn shoved them right back together Thanks

Oprah: Lets not judge by Comments, but no comments! on 13 Mar 2009

I am not sure whether Rihanna's accepting Chris back is a case of low self esteem. I do not know if it is right or wrong, good or bad, but it could be as simple as Rihanna still loves Chris and wants to give him a second chance with the hope and belief that he has or is willing to change. It is great that Oprah wants to have a show about domestic violence, but using Rihanna as the reason is unnecessary. Rihanna is going through a lot including sorting out her relationship with Chris. Being judgemental may not be the way to help Rihanna resolve the issue.

Dont be dumb by susan on 17 Mar 2009

You dont know if going back to an attacker is good or bad right or wrong??? Then there's a good chance you either date an abuser, or are an abuser yourself or will put yourself in such a situation... because you dotn know if its right or wrong good or bad.

Forgiveness by Sinto Guredam on 13 Mar 2009

The story about Chris and Rihanna is as simple as abc please lets try and forgive them totally, they are yet to grow towords maturity,we are not perfect beings,God forgives us nomatter the gravity of sins we commit so why can'nt we forgive and help them realise the truth to be a better spouse and a blessing to the black race.My love goes to them for good.

Oprah I'm disappointed by Ms. Disappointed on 13 Mar 2009

I'm a bit disappointed in Oprah here, she's not heard Chris Brown's side of the story. No one has. As for Rihanna, I dont know about anyone else, but if ANYBODY - even my parents beat me to any degree and they had no reason you wouldn't get me to shut up about it. I'd be enraged, inconsolable, and singing that story on every street corner.I'm saying I find her silence extremely suspicous, and the fact that she made up with him so quickly a sign that there is way more to this story than the issue of self esteem.Oprah and all the other mouth motorists should consider that this is a female who's admitted to hitting her little brother in the face with a glass bottle.
