Ripu’s all-round show goes in vain as Shivalik School wins

Chandigarh, August 25 A Fine all-round show by Ripu Dhaman (15 runs and 3 for 15) could not save Ryan International School, Sector 49 from defeat as they were beaten by seven wickets by Shivalik Public School, Sector 40 in the boys' Under-14 cricket match at the Inter-School Tournament being organised by Chandigarh Education Department on Monday.

Batting first after the coin was tossed, Ryan International School were bowled out for a paltry 56 runs in 14.5 overs. Ripu Dhaman emerged as the top scorer with 15 runs while the other batsman failed to preserve their wickets and kept getting out at regular intervals. For Shivalik School, Gaganjeet was the wrecker-in-chief with three wickets.

Chasing the modest total, Shivalik School made 60 runs in 16.1 overs for the loss of three wickets. Lakhdeep top scored with 30 runs to pave way for his team's win. Ritu also shone with the ball as he scalped three wickets for 15 runs.

DPS clinch under-17 badminton title
Delhi Public School, Sector 40 walked away with the title while Moti Ram Arya Senior Secondary School, Sector 27 clinched the second spot in the Under-17 badminton final. Similarly in the Under-19 final, Moti Ram Arya Senior Secondary School, Sector 27 bagged the title while Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16 was in tow at the second position.

GMSSS-46 corners glory in handball
In handball in the Under-17 category, Governemnt Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 46 defeated Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 19 by 28-24 while Guru Nanak Khalsa School, Sector 30 scored an emphatic 16-9 win over Government Model senior Secondary School, Sector 47. Similarly, in the Under-19 category, Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36 scored a hard-fought 15-13 win over Guru Nanak Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Sector 30.

NPS outplays DAV-8 in football
NIkhil Sharma and Simarjit Singh scored one goal each as New Public School, Sector 18 trounced DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8 by 2-0 in a football match. Meanwhile, in another match, DAV Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 15 had to fight hard to overcome a spirited Vivek High School side to beat them by 3-2. Ravi, Roko and Kamei scored for DAV while Saransh scored a brace for Vivek School.

Harikala grabs top honour in gymnastics
Harikala of St Stephen's School-45, Chandigarh claimed top spot in the event of Balancing Beam, while finished second in the vaulting event in the gymnastics inter-school event held at Sports Complex, Sector 7 in Chandigarh. Shivani Jotshi of the same school grabbed top position, while Dipshi Jain of MRAS-27 was third in the Vaulting event.

MMS-21 wins in TT
In the Under-17 table tennis match, Manav Mangal School, Sector 21 defeated MDAV, Sector 22 by 3-0 in a one-sided affair. Delhi Public School, Sector 40 snuffed out the challenge of St Joseph School, Sector 44 by a margin of 3-0. Meanwhile, in the Under-19 category, Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 35 scored a hard-fought 3-2 win over Steping Stones School, Sector 37. Bhavan Vidyalaya were beaten by a margin of 3-0 by Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 19.
